I think you're right, smallholding.
Today is not shaping up to be a good day for me, seem to be getting more ill by the hour. Don't think I'm even going to go out for a walk today and not been to my parents' for lunch. Just managed to do some reading for my course and promised Mrs K that I'll work out what we're spending on son's birthday presents and party before the end of tonight.2018 totals:

Son's birthday party finances are sorted.
This looks to be a fairly cheap one as I don't really want to spend a lot of money on drinks for adults and the meal is a small three course affair, so not buying lots of things that will be thrown away. Adults are getting a celebratory glass of champagne each and a glass of wine with the meal, no more. Hopefully the weather will be nice.
Next job: working out the same things for Halloween party.2018 totals:

Can't believe I'm saying this but we've agreed to have a booze free Halloween! The party is only for a couple of hours in the evening and 50% of the adults will be driving. So, it's going to be another cheap affair and we only prepping a little bit of party food for that.
For events we've organised in the past, drinks for adults has been our single biggest cost.
Son's birthday presents have also been talked about and agreed. We don't really tend to buy too much as I see the party being his biggest present. So this year he's getting 2 violin books, 2 piano books, 3 reading books, an art set and a basic train set.
£30 also put into savings.2018 totals:

Lovely ideas for LittleK's birthday. He'll enjoy lots of small presents to open and he'll have no idea of the cost just that he's having lots of treats and having a special day. Let's hope the grandparents don't buy him an ipad and treat him to an ear piercing!!:rotfl:
What's even more pleasing is that you and MrsK are enjoying doing family things. So pleased your day at the castle went well yesterday. Those sort of outings aren't just 'educational' but good for building family memories. What's the theme for next half term?
Hope you feel better soon, perhaps you've got what LittleK had last week:).0 -
That's the idea with son's birthday. To be honest, he gets a lot more use from books and things to do than from expensive toys he uses a couple of times and becomes bored with quickly. One piano book has stickers in the middle, I know he'll love that. :rotfl: Yes, he's quite easily pleased.
Next year's present is easy as he'll almost certainly move from an 1/8 violin to a 1/4.
As for grandparents buying an iPad and treating him to an ear piercing... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I don't think so. My parents do buy him some expensive things but usually things he can keep and treasure, hopefully into adulthood. Mrs K's parents have 6 grandchildren including my son and he's the one they are least close to, so he doesn't really get much from them. Usually some chocolate / sweets, a soft toy and a little bit of money in a card. Party is going to be interesting with the rabbleturning up to my parents' house.
Really quite proud of my wife, it was almost as if son starting school flicked a switch inside her mind telling her it's OK to enjoy being a Mum. She's getting on much better with him, wants to do things as a family and enjoys herself. One of the reasons my mental state is getting worse is because I want her to choose to stay after we've finished the counselling. Ultimately it's her decision, she says she won't leave me but I do wonder if she thinks she and my son would be better off without me. I suppose I see the end of the counselling being a reason she could cite to go.
Lots of good memories from our visit as a family to the castle yesterday. It was a pity we couldn't take the dog as it was a great walk but dogs weren't allowed inside, she had a good time at my cousin's instead. Next half term the theme is adventure, flight and transport ... frankly, both Mrs K and I can't wait for that one. We've plans to go to the NEC Classic, Gaydon, Cosford and his birthday party theme is trains. My father is into O Gauge model railway and also has a garden live steam railway.
I thought I'd already had what my son had last week, this is a lot worse. Despite feeling so ill that I've been to sleep about three different times during the day, I'm wide awake when I really should be in bed. Tomorrow is a busy working day too. Got a meeting in the morning with a customer and then after lunch I'm music teaching all afternoon and evening finishing at 9.30pm. Break to pick son up and eat my dinner... not looking forward to this!2018 totals:

Glad you had a good weekend Alex, just an outsiders point if view but your dw has stuck by you for 10 years, from what you have posted through lots of ups and downs (and tricky inlaws
) it seems to me like that might be for a very good reason? Ie. She loves you very much
Hope you feel better today.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -

Have a good day Alex.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

I hope you're right.I'm concerned we've perhaps been through too much but only time will tell.
No better, meeting done and an order made (first one in quite a long time). Really don't know how I'm going to get through the rest of today, though. A part of me wants to cancel lessons but I don't want to let people down.:rotfl: Am extremely amused by the name of the company :rotfl:.
Have a good day Alex.
:rotfl: Thought you might be, Gally.
