Thank you, SF.
May need some advice re. PGCE over the next few months. After all the toing and froing over this or studying for a PhD, open days, school experience and some rather serious discussions with my wife, I've decided I'm going to apply this year for Sept. 2017.

I like the old car better - but the new Alex much better :T.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Hi Alex, I've lurked on your diary for a while but wanted to comment that it's great to read your latest posts.
Have a fab day out with your son today. He is a similar age to my youngest and it truly is wonderful seeing the world through their eyes. I often want to freeze time.
Enjoy the rest of the holidays with him.
Thank you, Cath.Do you have a diary?
Absolutely agree re. seeing the world through the eyes of a 5 year old. I want to freeze time to stay in the summer holiday; either last one or this. Miss him terribly when he's at school.
Today has been swimming, exploring locally with our dog searching for various wildlife / plants (been a favourite hobby of my son's ever since he was very young), kickabout outside the house in the sun and finished up making a summer pudding before Mrs K came home.smallholdingsister wrote: »Exciting news about the PGCE. Secondary or primary?
Primary.
Just have to hope someone will accept me onto their course now, which will be hard enough but also that someone will want to give me a job. :eek:slowlyfading wrote: »Happy to help, if I can

Today has generally been good but after an OK night's sleep, yet again I've had another splitting headache all afternoon and evening. Next week I'm planning to take my son to Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Clumber Park at some point, which are quite a drive so hope this doesn't persist.
Rather glad it's the weekend as my wife has been very busy with work and will be away for a few days next week (working). She brought fish and chips home this evening which seems to have become a regular Friday occurrence. As we split a large cod and small chips between 3 and I boil some peas, it's probably cheaper than cooking but not very good for you!
I'm thinking I ought to have a go at some decluttering / selling over next week to try to boost the savings a little.Son has been quite happy to join in thus far with helping and he has become a little more easy to persuade to tidy things as he sees I'm tidying away my toys too. :rotfl:

I will have a look.
Went to a nice, small country show today. Also spent some time working on the cars; nothing major, mainly just getting them clean and presentable. Lucky our son enjoys helping. Tomorrow we're going to a classic car show (wife being indecisive about which one she wants to take :rotfl:) and also going to see the mill at Belper for my son's summer project.
Yes, I too remember summer lasting forever! It was always longer than my son gets, though.
:rotfl: Re. school, I think I may have a hard time getting my son to go back. :eek:smallholdingsister wrote: »Alex they will snap you up in primary. Especially if you can play piano.
I'm a post-grade 8 pianist. The primary schools I've volunteered in seem to really like the fact I play piano and studied Music. Hopefully you're right, I can't say I'm overly confident about getting onto the course / a job. At the moment, I'm really concerned about them questioning why I left my first career ("I had a mental breakdown" is hardly going to look positive, neither is "I never went back to it because my wife fell pregnant") and also about how I will cope with the job and parenthood.

I wouldn't word it quite like that on your cv :rotfl:
What's wrong with saying you are a sahd whose son has now settled at school so you are ready for a new career?MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -

:rotfl: Not good, is it?
Nothing wrong with that explanation and is (pretty much) true. The difficulty is I left my last full time job before my wife fell pregnant, can hardly say I spent over a year prepping to be a Dad, can I? After that I started a furniture business which is technically still running and I plan to keep ticking over, though I've not been seeking new business for a while now. Also I'm a director of my parents' company. Then there's music teaching, school work / volunteering.
Anyhow, must try to put this out of my mind and go to bed.2018 totals:
