Unfortunately they all have their own agendas so the real people can never get to the whole truth. The 'spin' is immense and in all honesty far too cleverly laid for me to keep up with, I've decided my approach to the whole EU debate is to picture how the UK may be in 15 years time when DS1 is looking for the start of his career. How has it changed, good and bad, in the 15 years I have been in meaningful employment etc...
That said I can't see the leave vote really winning anyway. But I really hope the politicians allow for a proper debate without constantly scoring points off each other.

There's always Boris!!!:D
I don't think it's the choice of school that's the problem. My take is that LittleK prefers staying at home with you. You also prefer him staying at home with you and he knows that. He also may feel a little protective/concerned at leaving you at home when he knows you miss him.
While MrsK may have tried the 'work' approach it's not something you just say once and all sorted. You've taken the decision that he's going to the village school and that's where he's going to go every school day until he's 11(?). So you just use the broken record technique and say the same thing every day if needs be until he gets the message. I think it would also help if you praise him and the school and his teachers at every opportunity. You may not be telling him, in as many words, that you don't approve of his teacher/the curriculum/standards/state education etc. but I believe it's coming across and he's bright enough to know which buttons to press.
I can't see Boris being taken seriously on the world stage, though? Really not sure other countries would "get" him. Personally, I think CMD a better PM than Boris would be. Also May and Osbourne to consider, both I think could do well as PM.
You're perhaps right about school, to be honest. I'd rather he was at home and feel he'd benefit from a better education and achieve a higher academic standard over a shorter timeframe with me. It seems one of the few things I'm good at is teaching (or so I've been told). He had an OK day but not the best today.
Son will leave the village school at 7 and go to my old prep school. Whilst I have my reservations, which I think I'll have about any school, I know that's the best place to prepare him for senior school.Feeling dense- CMD??????
Gally, I explained CMD a few posts above.CMD = "call me dave" as in PM - prime minster not private message
at least that is what I think it all means x

Ah, thanks
. I just call him 'kn*bhead', usually accompanied with a 'fingers stabbing eyes' movement :rotfl:.
Gally, you disappoint me. :rotfl:
Seriously I think CMD is a nice chap. Perhaps not the greatest leader but hardly a "kn*bhead".shangaijimmy wrote: »Unfortunately they all have their own agendas so the real people can never get to the whole truth. Cameron & Jeremy v Boris & Farage...
Absolutely agree re. politicians all having their own agendas. Power corrupts in many ways. As for the media, they've their own agendas too that are perhaps more dangerous than those of the politicians.
You have a very interesting approach to the EU debate.I haven't really thought about it affecting my son (as I'm not sure it will, really) but do have concerns about a potential Labour government. This is likely awful but I always imagine my son will study then help me with running my parents' assets whilst doing things that interest him (whether that be "work" or something else). My wife would be horrified if I told her that, though.
Of course the politicians won't allow for a proper debate without point scoring. Mind, I do find that somewhat entertaining.2018 totals:

GG has perfectly summed up the response I wanted to make, but decided not to :rotfl: :rotfl:
Careful about imagining what your son may end up doing Alex, it probably won't be what you are expecting! Could the management of properties be handed over to a managemant company in the future, Less money but not much impact on his life?MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
I am leaning to the out campaign at the minute. Europe as a continent seems such an unstable place at the minute I can't see how the stable progressive countries don't get held back. It's fine having the EU but should it be Tiered to reflect where economies are etc...? Our town, so far, hasn't been affected my immigration from Eastern Europe but you do suspect it's coming. As for labour we're from a 'safe' labour seat but our local council has systematically run the town into the ground whilst our very local neighbours have flourished under Tory councils, therefore I'm not too thrilled with the prospects of our current very left socialist Corbyn.
Sorry to high jack with politics! I agree the sideshow is quite entertaining and it'll b interesting which politicians take on boris!MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0 -

For those that seem to really detest CMD, do you see a viable alternative?
Ultimately, I know it's my son's decision (and his only) in regard to what he does with his life when older. If my son decides that he doesn't want to be involved in my parents' affairs and I was at the age of retirement, the decision about what to do would be his. I certainly won't resent his choices if they lead him somewhere else.shangaijimmy wrote: »I am leaning to the out campaign at the minute. :rotfl: No need to apologise, maman and I often have a political debate / rant on here!
I understand your reasons, in my opinion the vastly different economies within the EU cause all kinds of problems and membership perhaps seems more beneficial to the "poorer" countries. Personally, I too think there should be some kind of tiered system to reflect the differing economies of the member states.
Whether there should be free movement of people is a difficult question and in my opinion, an ethical minefield. Regarding specifically Eastern European immigration, I'm yet to fully understand what is "real" and what is scaremongering. Personally, I'm not convinced there are hoards of Eastern Europeans migrating to the UK to claim benefits. If, in fact, they are coming here to work, are finding non-exploitative and legal work, thereby paying into our economy, I struggle to find a moral case for closing our borders. However, the UK is an overpopulated nation and if more people are entering than leaving, that is also a major problem.
I have a dislike for the Labour party, especially so under Corbyn. Not even joking that I've had nightmares about him becoming PM.2018 totals:

:rotfl: I don't drive anything so ghastly common as a Jaguar ... mine's a Daimler.
Mother's is also a Daimler but father, the peasant, owns a Jaguar and wife will be joining him. So, between the family, I think that would make me "four Jags" (considering one Daimler is a rebadged XJ6 and one an XJ12 (bad days when your mother owns a faster car)).
