End of 2 years Orange contract on iPhone 5 - next?

It's coming up to a month to the end of my 2 years contract on Orange, which includes an iPhone 5 (64 GB) with 1 GB data and unlimited calls/texts, for £27.99/month.

I'd really like to get an iPhone 6 (at least 64 GB, and probably 128 GB), but EE's prices are a bit steep and I'd be looking at almost doubling my current monthly amount
  • 64 GB = £49.99 up-front + £51.99/month
  • 128 GB = £109.99 up-front + £56.99/month. (they "recommend" the 20 GB data plan at £58.49/month)
(Sure they're on 4G, but I don't particularly need that; I've never used my current 1GB 3G allowance in any month.)
Can anybody recommend a better iPhone 6 deal?

Alternative possibilities I'm considering are:
  • Whether to just stick with what I've got (ie. the iPhone 5) and take my plan down to a SIM-only one.
  • Though I've been with Orange for over 20 years, with the same number, from before the "7" was introduced, I might consider moving, because (a) I'm not sure about the BT move, and (b) I might consider moving to O2 for the benefits (though I do have a spare phone with an O2 PAYG SIM for them anyway).
Options/advice/suggestions gratefully received, thanks!

(P.S. I've got a load of apps, music, and so-on, so it's only an iPhone which is of interest.)

Buy the handset outright and get yourself a sim only of PAYG deal for circa £10 a month.

It will work out cheaper over the min term of a would be contract (24 months), your handset won't be locked to 1 network and you're not stuck in a 24 month contract.

Not that I recommend wasting £900 on a mobile toy.

Thanks - the iPhone 6 deals thread gave me a pointer and I got a good deal from CPW.

Just because it's a "waste" in your opinion doesn't mean it's a waste of money to everyone. I bought an iPhone 6 and its worth every penny to me.

OK, I don't mind replacing "wasting" with "spending", but I insist on "toy".
Will this make any real difference?

A toy would indicate a sort of phone that people 'play' around with in terms of hacking and modding. A 'toy' phone would indicate an Android device rather than an iOS device.

All smartphones are toys, at least for 90% of people. Some are very expensive toys.
  • I have an iPhone and think it is far from a toy. It is my phone, my email, my web browser, my address book, my diary, my instant messenger, my web banking, my internet router, my sat nav, my music player, my camera.

Find me a landline phone that can do all that.
  • Oh and I posted on this thread using it!
