Last year Pickle's friend, also aged 3, had to have glasses. Pickle was consumed with jealousy. Wherever we went people were astounded to hear this 3 year old pleading, "Please can I have glasses? I NEED an eye test. I can't see very well. I can only see if I have glasses."
She was only pacified when we bought her a pair of sunglasses which she wore on every possible occasion.

When DD was small she complained every time we passed the opticians that she needed glasses because they had D1sney ones in the window. Her eyes were fine.
However, she has had to wear glasses for a few years now but mostly wears contacts, and tells everyone to be careful what they wish for.Spend less now, work less later.0 -

DGS was bullied unmercifully about wearing glasses by one group of boys at schoolHe eventually moved to another school, and there no one takes any notice when he wears them, though he prefers his contact lenses. He moves to secondary school next term and some of the bullies may be there too, but he will have plenty of his friends there to stick up for him if necessary (hopefully it won't be).
I started wearing them when I was eight and did get a bit of teasing, but I was so relieved to be able to see like everyone else that I didn't care, so they stopped bothering to tease.0 -
I work in a primary school where the children are proud to wear glasses, it's good that eye problems are found so quickly so the children can get on with their lives.
I remember when I was young thinking my DM made such a fuss of not being able to see labels in shops - I'm there now so sorry Mum!
How's the house viewing going monna? Have you seen anything you fancy yet?
The weather here has been glorious for the past few weeks, just a shame the wind makes it feel cool. On the plus side - washing is drying outside every day!0 -
Ah, yes. Househunting. Yesterday we looked at a house which was already divided into two and the estate agent thought might just suit us. It didn't, which was a great disappointment to DS2 as it was almost next door to the village pub.
The estate agent then gave us details of another property that she thought might suit. This is a very large bungalow which could be divided into two separate dwellings. Normally I wouldn't consider it but the surroundings are lovely. It has its own lake and is surrounded by beautiful countryside much of it owned by the RSPB. We are going to view it later in the week.
Will keep you posted.
This coming week it is my turn for lunch club so must get together with my partner in crime to plan our campaign.
Have a good weekend all. How is HWK Lyn. I'm wondering if you will get your visit to Nell.

Hi MONNA I'm here now! came up yesterday as He Who Knows is responding brilliantly to the antibiotics and feeling very much improved. We're going out for a jacket potato lunch and then being picked up to go to the concert venue at 3. The gap between the rehearsal and the performance will be very short so I've invested in some M&S salads and yoghurts to have for a late supper when we get back tonight. Should be a lovely concert and I'm looking forward to it very much
Text from DD2 last night to say she thinks Zebra might have chickenpox as they were t a birthday party where one of the guests came down with it the next day and the incubation period is right, he's feeling poorly and laying on the sofa under a blanket. Inevitably Oreo will get it too so they are probably in for a trying old time poor loves, we'll see!!!0 -
So glad you managed to get away Lyn, enjoy the concert.
Ouch to the chicken poxy children. So hard when they are that little, hopefully it won't last long.
My two managed to get chicken pox in their early twenties. It was horrific, raging temperatures, hallucinations, spots everywhere including in their mouths, which I didn't think was possible. Awful!
The wretches would not catch any childhood illnesses. They still have not had mumps in spite of my best efforts. It was well known that a child in their school only had to have the suspicion of a mump and I would be on the doorstep, two boys in tow, urging them to share germs. No luck.
Far better to get it over with now.
I had chickenpox aged 6. The doctor came to the house (they did that in the bad old days before the NHS) and said cheerfully, "You've been kissing the boys," to which I replied indignantly, "Only one."
x
P.S.. Yes I remember the boy in question and we are still in touch. Never discussed that particular incident though!I believe that friends are quiet angels

The large bungalow sounds intriguing monnagran! I hope you all like it
Lyn I'm so glad HWK is feeling betterMy DD's chest has flared up again and she is really fed up, but can't see any point going to the GP yet again on Monday, as after numerous test and x-rays she has been told it's viral and that she'll just have to wait for it to get better on its own.
Been to hospital this morning for my routine mammogram, so i do hope "that's that" for another three years.
Mardatha Are you and the RV okay? It seems a little while since you posted, though I'm sure it's not long really.0 -
Yes thanks Ivy. I been out gardening and the poor old RV is stuck on the couch with his bad knee. At times like this I remember why I started calling him the RV..

I caught mumps when I was 30, damn painful it was too.
Monna I hope you find the 'right' one soon.
Mar, hugs, RV's can be such a nuisance, I can see mine floating in the cut one day soon, unless I remember to tie him to a large chunk of concrete.
I'm still trying to empty my house, waited over an hour for someone who was supposed to be collecting a garden table, 6 chairs and a parasol, she didn't turn up and when I asked what was happening she said 'Oh, it's a bit too far' well the house hasn't moved since the items were listed!Chin up, Titus out.0
