Thanks Silva These things have always have applied to private rentals since the 80s but not to social housing. Housing benefit does not count either for any of these sort of things. It is not counted as a benefit if it costs the government money and is if it will save them any money well it is a benefit.
I will have a look at it though. I expect it will be on the forum somewhere.
Perhaps we will get a new one in a few years because they usually follow these things up with grants to housing associations a few years later.
I have been thinking if my scan shows my cancer has stopped growing It may be a good idea for DS and for me really if we move into Manchester. I am not going to all that trouble and expense if I don't have long to live.
We would save the money back if we move near to the where the Oriental Studies department is. Neither of us would have all that travelling. I would come up with this now I have found the perfect wallpaper. :rotfl:
I like the area we live in. I like Bolton because of the people but it has always made more sense to live in Manchester. Bolton is just a commuter town these days. It's one of the worse to get into Manchester from. We don't have the Metro. Most other parts of Greater Manchester either have the Metro (high speed trams) or it is planned in the next couple of years.
I hope you get something for your heating Silva it makes a big difference to your bills when you modernise.0 -
heI've just caught up and noticed the pink candle shaped like a rose .
McC Thank you for answering my locker question a couple of weeks ago . I did some reading up online and the lock problem seems to have affected a lot of people and lost some their money . If there's an iffy lock out there it's sure to have my name on it . If we could have a reliable gap between appointments I'd order for delivery from the Coop on the site .
I hope the funeral has gone as well as can be . So sad to go so soon x
Mar As one of the original plotters on the old SHTF thread . I for one absolve you from your knitting an ark duty . We did ponder the ark , wool and water question without a solution .t
I have some nice wood if you care to set the RV the task of building one . We would never get it down the hill but you don't have to tell him that . I'm thinking respite from the soaps for you .
It's good to achieve something paperwork wise Camelot . I starting but it feels good when you've done it . I hope all goes well .

Polly I don't have a daughter nearby. I have no one nearby. If I did I would probably get a lift to the hospital.
My only daughter is in Malta. They bought the flat there when they were in Libya because it was only half an hours flight away. They loved Libya and would have probably stayed an extra five years if it had not been for the war.
They had planned to retire there. Then while they were in Saudi they all developed an allergy to particulates in the sand. The same thing is in Malta so they sill have the problem. I have a feeling they will find a way to treat if permanently and end up permanently in Malta as they planned.
I am sure that is what they would prefer. DGS is settled in school. There is a new one being built just across the road from them. It is rather a long walk at the moment, especially for a 3 year old. The new school will open in September. DD could go back to work. They have made lots of friends.
Polly it is all booked only the late night arrival home to sort. No point in checking trains yet they will soon change to summer timetable.0 -
Nursemaggie My sister lived in Little Lever for a few years in the late seventies and Bolton was an area we visited often . I often wonder if the market is as good as it used to be .
It sounds a good plan to consider Manchester as it would be so much quicker and cheaper transport wise .
Is housing easy to find ? I keep meaning to ask if you are on any sort of housing list . I know there is very little these days council housing wise since they started selling the stock . \\have you ever tried for some sort of Housing Association property ? You sound as though you should have some entitlement with a history of serious health problems . You served the NHS and brought the new generation into the world and it seems to me you deserve more than struggling to get your washing dry and stay warm .
I don't know what's wrong with my laptop it keeps doing the most random things .

Sorry Nursemaggie It was something you mentioned about where you did your washing when talking about drying washing . If I had a brain I'd be dangerous !

Polly we are already in a housing association flat we were rehoused in January last year.
Ds is quite keen to move to Manchester. It was planned before we got notice to quite from our landlord. We had been looking for over a year so we were on the housing list. When you get two months notice you don't have time to pick and chose.
I hope your laptop is OK. it could be just a blip but it could just need a bit of cleaning up. I would every everything in maintenance, clear your cookies and history and see if that helps.0 -
I hope I didn't upset you NM . I remember your search for somewhere at short notice .
I'm glad all is sorted bar the train times . I'm not sure about your area but usually early April is revised timetables however as you mentioned a couple of days ago changes in the service I assume that's what you mean .
I imagine you will be very glad to get on that plane . You must miss your family so much .

nursemaggie, I am so glad that you have got something sorted for your holiday, I was so afraid that you were going to miss out. I had to smile at your pragmatic approach to moving. Reminds me of my grandmother who, when she hit 80 was persuaded by her sons to sell her house and move in with one of her sons and his family so that she could be looked after - that sounds eerily familiar! When she was 90 she confided to me that if she had known she was going to live so long she wouldn't have sold her house. In the event she lived to her mid nineties.
However, everything being equal I think it sounds sensible for you to live nearer the centre of Manchester. You have such a nightmare with travelling that it can only be a good move. I know that you've only just settled in but you are not really happy there are you?
I'm late on here today but I've spent too much time meddling in other threads. I have followed up on Greenbees suggestion and arranged for a friend to come with me to view this 'house with an annexe' next week. She said, once she had heard my tale of woe, "So you want to live close to the family but not under the same roof." Exactly!
I then went further and contacted an estate agent to put this place on the market. Things are moving.
I'll have to start digging the elephant out of its cosy garage if Mar is waiting for it. It's a long way from the IOW to Scotland.

How about a pair of semi-detached houses Monna? I seriously think family compounds are underrated in this country... I like living on my own, but wouldn't mind family living say... at the other end of the village.
And do consider my suggestion that you have the house and they have the annexe. If you're putting up most of the cash, then that's only fair. They can by you out room by room...
But just remember - they've lived with you in an overcrowded space for some time, and they still want to share a home with you. I loved having my grandparents living with us (in an annexe). I think it was tougher for my mother (they were her inlaws) as she missed her privacy, but it was great for me and my brother.0 -
Monna don't forget the diversion down the M55 to Blackpool for the elephant's trip to visit Mar for ark-sizing....2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
