Use all the corned beef you have monna, their traffic light system is pants! One set of lights to do a 4 way junction is causing chaos - not sure if they know that my crystal ball is all out of batteries, it makes it so hard to know if there's anything coming!

Anyway, my worries have changed - I have my very talkative 80 year old Aunt staying with me, we visited the Royal Yacht yesterday. I tried hiding in the boiler room but she found me and talked some more. She also talked for the hour and a half it took to get there and the same coming home. I'm taking her to an island today, I may go to a different one.

mar It's a savoury tart with onions and anchovies. Southern France's answer to pizza, only they spell it with s's rather than z's :)

Your aunt sounds just like my cousin. My brother invited her to stay last year, and he said she talked non-stop all the two weeks she was there, except when she was asleep!

Heard from sister-in-law that brother is being allowed home today. :T I expect he'll be weak and wobbly and determined not to admit it.

Not to be outdone, DD1 has had one of the cough viruses that's going round, and it turned into a chest infection; the GP said to go back if she didn't feel any better after a couple of days, so she is going back tomorrow as it now hurts to lean over or lift anything - she'd assumed coughing had caused pulled muscles, but it's got worse. GP sent her for an x-ray yesterday to make sure she hasn't got PE again, but it always takes a while for the x-ray report to get back to the GP. She's getting her OH to pack her a bag just in case GP sends her to hospital tomorrow. Hopefully that won't happen!

    P i s saladiere Recipe.

Ingredients for the way I did it.
    Jocasta's P i s s aladiere
Approx 200g bread dough for a pizza base
    1lb white onions, finely sliced
1 tbsp ready chopped garlic or 2-3 cloves fresh garlic, crushed
    Tin anchovies in olive oil
(Olives are standard, but I didn't have any)

Literally a minute to slice the onions in the food processor. Then, rather than sauteeing them in olive oil I micro'ed the onions to soften them for 7 minutes. Worked perfectly. I would have included the garlic here if fresh, but mine was ready chopped in vinegar.

I spread the cooked, very soft onions and some ready chopped garlic on the bread dough pizza base (uncooked).
I then added the anchovies on top and drizzled over the fishy, salty olive oil from their tin.
I forgot to add pepper but the salt in the olive oil and anchovies made up for it. I will add black pepper next time.
15 minutes in a hot oven for me, but mine is very fast, 20 would be best for most.

Variations: Jocasta Innes's recipe included olives, as stated. I didn't have any, but vegetarians and vegans could leave out the anchovies and include these, plus some capers, perhaps. The BBC recipe for this suggests stewing the onions with 2 tomatoes for 45 mins. Stuff that...

Edit: I only used bread dough as I had some left over from baking. A flatbread would be fine, or even a large split muffin, which is what Jocasta's 1987 book suggests.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

For those with relatives who talk too much. If they are elderly and live alone that may not have had a conversation with anyone since you last saw them.

I take a pile of books with me and share them with my sil as he has very similar tastes in books to me. That stops me talking too much. I know how they feel I never get a word in edge ways with DS. I can sit at the table with him for two hours and get told off for interrupting if I say one word.
