Fact of the day: Going back to flat Coke diluted with water (with or without a pinch of salt). It is used by long distance cyclists as a rehydration/energy drink instead of the expensive ones you can buy.
It is also excellent as a hangover cure'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

Our elderly boiler has finally died
Thankfully we have a couple of halogen heaters to tide us over until we can arrange a new boiler, and we have a working cooker and electricity and no one is dropping bombs on us, so we'll be fine.
I think DS is more concerned about me and OH managing than we are, bless him.
I was cold at bedtime, so I dug out some pj's instead of the usual nightie, found some bedsocks, and put a blanket over the duvet. I woke a couple of hours later after a nightmare, baking hot. The blanket was discarded and the pj's swapped for the nightie!
(Sorry monnagran, I know there shouldn't be an apostrophe in "pj's" but somehow "pjs" looks wrong! I must say it sounds as if your DS is doing wonderfully.0 -
Softstuff. Tip 1. Paste the wall as well as the paper. makes it much easier to slide the paper into position.
Tip 2. If you think it looks awful when you have finished, with bubbles in the paper, don't despair. The next morning it will look so much better when it has dried.

Tip 3 bribe Monnagran with a peaceful stay in a beautiful location with the proviso she supervisesSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Afternoon all
Monnagran if I'd known you were also up we could have kept each other company! Sleep eluded me until about 6am so I had about three fitful hours. Bl**dy dustmen woke me!
Ivyleaf sorry about your boiler, our pump is making all sorts of grinding noises but I hope it will last til the warmer weather ( bet it won't ! )Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Thank you nannywindow - luckily DS has a "friend of a friend" who is a Gas Safe engineer so they should be able to fit the new one between them once we've got it, though sadly we can't afford the sort we'd have liked.0

Well, DS2 and Pickle set off this morning. Pickle was far from well but she did ask for toast and strawberry jam for breakfast so perhaps she is on the mend. I don't envy them going through the funeral tomorrow but they are coming back on Thursday so normal life will (hopefully) be resumed.
I managed to fit in a quick flit around £land after paying my cheque in.Was very restrained and only indulged in a bottle of disinfectant and some carpet shampoo and one very necessary item, a pack of Jaffa cakes.
I used to love wallpapering. The one occasion that almost broke me was doing DS1's bedroom in the days when he was was being a teenage goth. He had chosen a paper that was grey with thin diagonal stripes of black, white and red. The paper was cheap and stretched when wet so matching the thin stripes was a nightmare. Added to which it was an old house and none of the walls were quite square. I was seeing stripes before the eyes and thankful that I didn't suffer from migraines.
Ivyleaf. Bad news about the boiler. Isn't it remarkable that boilers never seem to go in the summer when they are not needed for heating.
With regard to the aberrant apostrophes, my tablet will often put them where I don't want them and miss them out where I could swear that I had put them in. I usually go through and correct them but sometimes I get tired of being a pedant or just cba and leave them to their own devices.
nannywindow: perhaps we will both have a better night tonight. It feels strange being on my own in the house, apart from the dogs of course. One is shut in the kitchen and one is snoring on my bed at the moment and will be hell to move when I want to get in it myself.
May see you later.

Monnagran I hope you too have a good sleep tonight. I have kept myself awake but my eyelids are drooping so I'm off to my bed now. What's the betting I'll sleep for a little while then be wide awake:(
Have to be tip top tomorrow as taking DGS7 to the dentist because one of his new teeth has come through at a 90 degree angle. ( hope he doesn't take the baby tooth next to it out, at least not until his mum or dad are with him).
Night Night, sleep tight all.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
At least if pickle is sick monna it wont taste too bad with that strawberry jam! My thoughts are with the family.
Just been to see the film 'Hidden Figures', really enjoyed it. Hard to believe that people were treated so badly and in my lifetime too.0 -
Monna, hope all goes as well as can be for ds and family.
How's the dog training going , is the fruit loop still spinning on her lead?
Advice on wall paper ... don't do it . Did it once , stripes going up two stairways , nightmare , decided there and then that life is to short to do jobs I can't do badly, then have to redo . Now I would take on a face painting job using the money to pay someone to do the decoration job .
But hats of to anyone who can do it
right may try and get some sleep ,
