Karcher, I've had a couple of pairs - initially for driving only, then with my first varifocal lenses. I've found them really good, DH has some too. I went reactolite last time but they're not as good for driving, and I didn't like the photos from DS2's wedding in September as the lenses were an off colour
. It's a bit of a pain to carry them around at first, but it's less bother to change them than wait for reactolite lenses to go clear again when you go inside!
Thanks Floss
I think I need some but what with having a varifocal lens, the expense is rather restrictive for me
I also never carry a handbag so carrying around another pair of specs is a bit tricky..but not such a chore or expense to buy a handbag for that purpose.
Oh to have perfect 20 20 vision
Thanks again :A'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

Karcher, hope u don't mind me delurking, re prescription sunnies.
I have a pair in the car and they are very useful. If the weather is changeable I can quickly swap to my clear glasses because my sunnies are on strings so I just drop them down. No faffing to put them away. And they are there handy for when the sun comes back out
I finally caved in this year and took my prescription sunnies to the beach on my wintersun hols as well (usually make do with cheap sunnies but i missing too much nowadays!).
My biggest complaint is that I also benefit from reading glasses so that's 3 pairs to pack if going away!!
PS - I don't care if glasses on strings make me look old :rotfl:
I feel honoured you've de-lurked
Thanks for your thoughts. I made the choice of having varifocals because I cba to carry around lots of different glasses and constantly have to swap them in order to look at the view or read the menu (not that I holiday/go out/ have a view, often/ever :rotfl:)

I have prescription sunnies which are great but bought cheepie reading sunnies from Primarni last year for about £3, they are brilliant!
Remember I asked your advise about my friend that died's children? I had decided I would help the chap out until the Easter holidays - but he has employed a Nannie to get the children up, take them to school and do the housework. I am so relieved, I was so worried that it would go on longer and realistically I think I would be exhausted going there early in the morning and then a full day at a quite demanding job. He has made the right decision and I can still take the children from their after school clubs along to childcare which helps him a lot.
Thank you all for your thoughts with this, you are all so lovely.0 -
Camelot, perfect solution for all involved.
Hester the boating life sounds very appealing. Hope its plain sailing for you now - ouch bad pun
Hubby and Dgs both tucked up in bed. DD took them both swimming this morning, well Dgs did the swimming while hubby relaxed in the warmth. Then Hubby went to meet some blind cricketers who need a proper scorer and it went so well he will be scoring for them next season. Its local and obviously disabled friendly which will give me a few hours peace while he is somewhere safe :T what will I do with myself?Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
camelot So glad your friend's DH found a solution :T
nursemaggie I saw your PM last night, before I read your post just now, and hadn't realised you were offering me your machine. That's so kind, but there will be someone who needs it more than me. Thank you again though :A I suppose charity shops won't want it as it's an electrical item.0 -
Ivyleaf Dunelm also sell sewing machines - I noticed a small stack of different boxes when I was in our store this morning.
DH has been battling with curtain tracks today - the old one had a gap in the middle (we have 4-pane full height bay windows) and wasn't a very good track. He's taken that down & invested in a new corded one, so our old curtains should look slightly better! I've ordered new voiles for our bedroom, cleaned the cat's nose smudges off all the windows and bought a new tension rod for the long lace curtains (that have just had a quick wash & short tumble before being hung again) that hang in the back bedroom, so all in all we've had a window day!

Camelot, so glad he came up with a better solution.
Another one here who wears glasses around the neck, and have done since I started wearing them in my thirties. Absolutely don't care what anyone thinks, and I have some lovely lanyards for them.
Floss, wish I'd gone to Dunelm this morning. Selected the Range and was really uninspired. About to do some online Dunelm browsing now.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Thank you Floss for the reminder - I knew about JL but had forgotten Dunelm sell sewing machines too. I've bookmarked one of them to have a look at next time we're there.0

I'm pleased it has been resolved camelot. I honestly do think it was an awful lot to take on. I think hiring a nanny is absolutely the right thing for him to have done. Here's hoping the kids are soon happily settled into their new routine and happy with their new nanny.'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

Just called in to see if anyone is around. Obviously no one else is having a break in the tedious job of sleeping. My usual mid-night companions are tucked up and in the land of nod, or, in Softstuffs case, working.
DS and I spent yesterday tending to Pickle who must have picked up a sickness bug. Poor little soul was white and quiet all day. She didn't even mention the party she was missing so she must have been feeling really wretched.
We are hoping that she will be recovered by tomorrow as she and DS are due to go northwards for her other grandmother's funeral.
I was invited but there is the problem of finding somewhere to stay and the even bigger problem of what to do with the dogs.
I did suggest that we could send Dora on a visit to the kind lady who gave her to us, as an act of cruel revenge. DS was very enthusiastic and wondered if we could move without leaving a forwarding address before collecting her. I think that he had just discovered the remains of one of his trainers.
So it seems that the hound of hell, dear old fat, ponderous Millie and dear old fat, ponderous me will have to amuse ourselves for three days.
Better try to go back to sleep. I bet the folk on the Daily thread have had breakfast, walked the dog and washed the kitchen floor by now. I've never known such an industrious bunch.
