Think lower down it's falling as rain but freezing on the ground - will be a few injuries today.
Monna she just gave me more steroids :)
Get this month over and then maybe just start thinking about the garden. I never touched it at all last year and it looked the best it ever has :D but I missed my veg.

I cannot believe what I am reading here. Exactly what veg have you missed Mar?
It wouldn't be the green stuff would it?

Steroids eh? Perhaps that's what I have been missing all my life. My lazy gene has been given free range and needs to be annihilated.

  • I seem to be perpetually tired these days, but somewhere in the back of my mind is a wee voice telling me that if I just get moving again it will help :o

Really going to try and get my garden more productive this year too - fruit was good last year, it pretty much looked after itself, but would love veg - i'm still struggling to buy even basics here just now, not sure what's going on??? I only have a small garden, and the soil is shallow and sandy apart from in the two square foot gardens I have that have been enriched over the years, so might need to look at container gardening too - small crops I would think but every little helps.

WCS - there is a thing called square foot gardening if I remember rightly - specifically to get small spaces being productive. Mr Googly may be able to help. I also grew runner beans in some deep tubs last year - it was very successful as I've harvested enough to last us the year and given away pounds to DS1 & DiL.
Got over my maudlins and counted my blessings - one of them being you lovely bunch. On a mission today so I've sorted washing, made a batch of Chilli and pruned the small Wisteria. Will have a quick lick and flick with the duster and spend a couple of hours on me having a nice bath, washing my hair and defuzzing!
Bought a couple of fillet steaks for tea tonight as a treat and will be going to see a local band with DS1 and his friend - might be able to persuade DH to come too - a productive Satruday.
    Have a good day all

wcs Runner beans grow well in tubs (and green beans), as do tomatoes, potatoes, carrots (esp if you place them up higher away from the pesky carrot fly who are daft enough to only fly at a low level, I believe) Lettuce/ leaves/ cut and come again can be grown in shallow trays (I only grow mine in trays, tbh)

As well as square foot gardening there's also something called the three sisters method (again, G00gle is a great help) - also called companion planting - could be good for the veg beds :)

WCS Chantenay carrots will love sandy soil, and they are the short stubby ones so shallow is good! French beans are good in pots, and freeze well too. As greent says, lots of other things can be grown in pots, even kale

  • Thanks guys!! have two small sq foot gardens but not really room for more as the rest of the garden is over to fruit, but will google 3 sisters method as sounds interesting.
Will follow up your advice re container gardening also - I have quite a few fish boxes and some big tubs so can utilise them for now. Greent we don't get troubled much by pests, other than slugs, as too windy here even though by the sea.

Just heard that my aunt died at 11am this morning. TBH although I'm sad it wasn't unexpected and she had no life to speak of for quite a while. So no commiserations chums.
Off to wallow in my bathroom with a stiff drink xx
