Got in gear and sorted the steam cleaner - it worked very well on the mucky front door mat so over the next few weeks I will be steam cleaning anything that doesn't move! (Watch out DH) also pleased to discover that the plush mop heads I use will fit on it too. I've also sorted the airing cupboard and now got a huge bag to take to the CS - 14 pillow cases for starters!!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

I can't knit chain mail but I have a flogger I can bring.
I was in hosp a few years my BP was completely off the scale, so much so they called someone from cardio. He walked in to the ward and from 20ft away said 'You are using the wrong cuff' with that he turned on his hells and left.
I've not been posting much, my rucksack is overflowing and my shoulders are hitched as high as they with hitch. My beloved seems to think he's Captain Jean-Luc Picard, he keeps thinking of things that need sorting and I get left to do them. I keep expecting him to say 'Make it so'.
I gave a work colleague a pep talk today, she gave her notice in some time ago but agreed to stay on to do a handover with her replacement, only no one has applied for the job, she's fed up but doesn't feel she can leave.
So I told her that I'm not expecting to be replaced when I retire and that it will cause a lot of problems for staff, I asked her what she thought I should do. She said 'Leave anyway, it's not your problem'.
I suggested she take her own advice, and she realised it is the only way.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Knitting chain mail? Done that.
The last school that I taught in did several plays during the year. One year I collaborated with the music master, (stop sniggering Hester) and we wrote a play for the juniors based on David and Goliath. Obviously we had opposing armies, Philistines and Israelites. Dear Pat, the producer of this masterpiece, didn't know what to do about costumes. The art teacher sourced some huge cones of some sort of yarn in cream and grey and I got the whole school, teachers and parents included in knitting garter stitch squares which we sewed together for long vests. It was very effective.
It was hilarious to see the mothers - mostly 'ladies who lunch' - struggling with a bit of knitting. Some gave it to their nannies to do. Others finally handed over holey, misshapen scraps that I had to do something with.
Anyway, no one ever forgot the year we knitted chain mail.
In fact it even featured in my retirement poem. I stupidly started the tradition of writing a poem for every teacher who left. When I retired the rest of the staff had to make my poem a joint effort.
As I always wrote a parody on a well known poem, song or hymn, they did the same and the first verse was....
Joyful's hands were kind hands,
Doing good to all.
Knitting squares for blankets
And chain mail for Pat Hall.
So yeah! I can knit the chain mail.
Why do you let me rabbit on?
xI believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.0
