Monna, not having working adrenals apparently means your body can't hold onto salt. Low sodium leaves you very weak and constantly going faint. The Addisons group told to make up my own solution of half salt/half sugar/lemon juice and I'm trying it tomorrow. Then going to phone the consultant on Wed.
I was hoping nursemaggie might know more about this..

Sorry I Mar I don't. I would ask at your nearest chemist about salt tablets. We used to have to take them when we lived in Singapore.

I have seen a couple of videos about it being more dangerous to have too little than too much, recently. It makes sense after all for most of us your kidneys can chuck out the excess. My DD and SIL eat crisps every day for the salt.

    Mar,
May be safer to buy the rehydration sachets ,normally sold in packs of 6 but can buy in 20 packs , from local pharmacy, till you speak to consultant. I haven't seen tablets in the pharmacy for a long time , don't think I have dispensed them for many years , people with low BP ,people doing lots of sports , used to take them . If I remember right , the dose was anywhere between 1 and 6 tablets daily , lots of fluid must be taken . Wouldn't like to try and make up my own solution, without knowing how much you need to take ,first .
And depending on what other meds your on ...

Thanks burtha and nursemaggie. I don't really fancy taking salt tabs anyway, and have got a recipe for rehydration salt fluid and will make that up today. Mooched some salted crisps from the daughter and have ordered lots of cuppasoup from Sainsbugs, to come tomorrow. Need to do something as I can't go on like this without ending up in hosp.
Sorry for being MIA and not keeping up with the Fence news, everybody has sadness around xmas, it's not my fav time of year.

Mar: salt/sugar/lemonjuice. Sounds delicious. Add some ice cubes and a cocktail umbrella and you might be on to something there.

nursemaggie: A bag of crisps for healthy living! I love it and will certainly quote you when anyone raises their eyebrows at me. Now, if you could just let me know the health benefits of coffee with brown sugar and a slurp of Bailey's, I will be in your debt forever.

shanks: So sorry. There will always be a furry shaped hole in your heart but the pain does ease in time. Hugs.

Nothing much planned today. 3 of our visitors are still with us but one has developed a streaming cold so he may go home today. I have to fight the urge to wear a disinfectant soaked handkerchief over my nose and mouth in an effort to avoid inhaling germs.
When the first 'Asian flu' struck in 1957/8, I was at College where students were going down like flies. One girl did just that trick with the disinfectant mask, she was so determined to escape the flu'.
She managed it too. She must have been the only student who avoided being struck down.
Unfortunately, by the time we were all in recovery she succumbed to a very nasty bout of Chicken Pox.

Monna, coffee is made from beans and is a portion of fruit; an amount of sugar is needed for energy; Baileys is made from cream, providing calcium with the liqueur part being your Christmas treat and acting as germ-defence. Therefore your yummy sweet alcoholic coffee is part of a balanced diet in a germ-ridden household at Christmas :D

  • One year I was working in a prep boarding school as a cleaner, the boys went down with the winter vomiting virus, I was the only person, not to catch it, all the pupils, teaching staff, cleaners and kitchen staff succumbed.

We've had a very relaxing few days with BiL & SiL, and walked off excesses around Wisley yesterday afternoon. Now about to pack up and brave the M25, M40 & M6 back home to see how the cat survived...I'm sure she will be very pleased to see us!

DS2 & DiL are coming up for a few days, and we have some friends coming for dinner on Friday, so I need to wash some towels, check their bedroom & drag Dyson around tomorrow. Depending what time we get the chores done, we might walk down to see the sea :)
