Thanks for your concern Silvasava. Actually gusts of 50mph are fairly common here. It was/is pretty windy here but I've known much worse.
We have estate agents coming tomorrow to value the house so while everyone is out today I'll be having a massive tidy up. DIL and DS think I am mad, but I'm old-fashioned enough to believe that you don't invite people into your home to wade knee deep through toys or gaze upon clothes discarded all over the bedroom floor. It's just not happening.
You are not alone Hester. I don't think I would ever have anything on my birthday if it weren't for my sons other halves prompting. DS1 doesn't have an OH at the moment with inevitable consequences.
On the other hand, when they were growing up we celebrated two things for them every year. Their birthday and their adoption day. On his 21st adoption day DS1 presented me with 21 red roses for 21 happy years. When I am feeling neglected I just have to remember that.
Nursemaggie: I once sent a friend a 'congratulations' card on her engagement. She rang me in hysterics. Apparently I'd congratulated her on passing her driving test. That taught me to read cards more carefully.
Right. All is quiet downstairs so let the tidying blitz begin.

Has anyone ever been to cuba? Hubbys friend has asked him to be best man at his wedding (he was ours) and it'll be in cuba. We were all set for heading to canada for it one day, but cuba seems more.... adventurous. It's in 18 months, so a fair lead up.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

My DS remembered my birthday this year, but then, I did remind him!
Hester What a charmer your ex was/is.
nursemaggie Have you considered giving most of those cards to a charity shop? Just thinking, as I know you're a bit short of storage space
monnagran I agree it's better to have a tidy-up when EAs are coming. Apart from anything else it will surely make it easier to value the house. x0 -

My dear departed MiL always used to say it was daughters and daughters in law who remembered birthdays and bought the cards - how right she was! DH & I have been married over 40 years and the only cards he ever buys are for me ( cos I put it on the calendar lol) My DiL sends the most beautiful cards and she once told me that she has to believe what the cards are saying about the person . I'm very lucky with this DiL!!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

I used to get a card from my eldest DS when he was with his former partner. I won't say what I think of the present one. It's her that keeps him and the DGCs away. She also keeps everyone away from the kids, including DS when they are in the same room.0

That's rotten, nursemaggie. So sorry to hear that x
monnagran I hope you are okay and haven't overdone it today!0 -
So I have just received an email from a solicitors office that contains the phrase 'We was not aware....'
Ye gods I'd get the sack at work if I sent an internal email like that, never mind an email to a client.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Just shows they don't teach grammar at school these days.0
