Def a positive, Hester :T though i suspect she may have deserved a punch in the head.....
Went to the surgery. Saw a young locum after waiting two hours - it was his first day at our surgery and I suspect he was just recently qualified as a GP; he was very nice, but taking ages with each patient at this stage, and just to add to his woes the system crashed every time he tried to print off a prescription, so he was having to write them all by hand!
He thinks I may have helicobacter pylori, the infection that causes ulcers. so I need to stop taking my usual acid-suppressing medicine for 2 weeks, then provide a stool sample for testing. I have actually had this infection once, 17 years ago. I know it was 17 years ago because it was the year I got M.E.!
He gave me a different anti-sickness drug to try; I took one a couple of hours ago and promptly fell asleep, but that was good as I'd woken rather earlier than i'd have liked. I think I do feel less sick; at any rate I've eaten a couple of shortbread biscuits with enjoyment :j0 -
I was wondering about the possibility of ulcers. The symptoms you described do fit that diagnosis pretty much. I do hope the new meds help takes care of your nausea.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Thank you mila
The pain doesn't vary depending whether I've eaten or not, but we'll see. It was certainly a flare-up of something!
I ate some Kettle Chips after the shortbreadThere's nothing like a healthy meal, and that was nothing like a healthy meal
Tonight i'll try tomato soup and wholemeal bread0 -
Don't have tomato soup ivyleaf... if it's an ulcer that will HURT!
you need to live on a diet of frozen yogurt, ice cream and rice puddingNo nasty vegetables ...
OK, so you can have veg, but I'd recommend having them well cooked. In my experience steer clear of salad, onions, cauliflower, cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes (even if cooked), fizzy drinks, alcohol, meat.
At the extreme I ended up with rice cakes, rice pudding and frozen yogurt to deal with the pain. But soft bland carbs should be OK. And yogurt. Lots of yogurt.
I'm sure other people will have suggestions.0 -
Morning all,
Ivyleaf, I hope if it is an ulcer that it responds well to treatment! Hopefully the new anti nausea tablets will make waiting a bit more comfortable.
Hester, I hope your L&M had good news yesterday.
Another mixed day for me, half a day of work and half a day of housework. Things pick up again next week so I'm trying to take it slow while I have the option. Tonight is a beef plate pie for tea with a blue cheese puff pastry lid. I'm not sure if I'm going to do the filling in the oven or the slow cooker yet, might depend on if the ys beef has finished defrosting yet. I also picked up some ys dessert apples yesterday so will stew those with custard for puds tonight. I managed to get £1 tickets to the BBC Phil for Saturday playing Sibelius. OH isn't sure if he'll have the energy after his open day but at the moment we're planning to go which will be a treat.
Yesterday's walk was the first one this year where I've needed gloves. It has been two weeks since my last one since I've been ill and away and the trees have really turned. The hawthorns are now bare with only a few berries here and there but there were quite a few of what I'm fairly sure are rosehips. I've thought about using some to make something, but given their high tannin content I suspect I won't find them palatable.
Hugs to all who need them.x0 -
FPK rosehip syrup is lovely, it was the post-war method of getting vitamin C into babies & children right up to the early 1970's (Delrosa cordial) and rosehip jelly is delicious on fresh bread or crumpets2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I'll think about it floss-I've just looked at a few recipes. I'll take a box next week when I walk and see what is about. If things look plentiful maybe I'll give it a go!0

Thank you so much greenbee, that's really helpful to know. Although I've had similar symptoms before, it was so long ago that I can't remember what I ate, except that I didn't eat much of anything at all. I do remember I lost about half a stone over a few months and looked exactly like a drawing in my copy of "Medicine for Nurses" of a person with an ulcer, so much so that i laughed when I looked in the mirror and realised!
It was a case of not getting around to seeing a GP for ages because life was so hectic!
The tomato soup last night didn't seem to cause a problem, strangely. The pain's there all the time anyway, but the tomato didn't make it worse.
I have ice cream in the freezer, but it's raspberry ripple, so perhaps that would be a bad idea. I like the idea of frozen yogurt though, I'm partial to that!
I've just had some microwave porridge (with apologies to mar, who I know despises the stuff
FairyPrincessk you make some really interesting-sounding meals! I love reading about what you're cooking :T
Love to you too, Softstuff. I hope you can have a bit of a rest for a while xx0 -
I lost a lot of weight too ivyleaf. Only time I've worn clothes that small, and the rumour at work was that I had a drug problem... so I'm now really clear about where the lower limit to my weight should be. The clothes were fab though - I could fit into anything and wear really cheap clothes and they still looked good because I didn't have anything for the cheap fabric to draw attention to!0
