Thanks everyone :) I'm very relieved! Just need to get the stomach sorted out now. We have to buy food for tonight and tomorrow, and I have no clue what I'll feel like eating. Our GP thinks OH might have the same thing as me, but although he feels below par he's happily eating everything he usually eats!

ivyleaf some people with get a ravenous appetite not go off their food. The food relieves the pain. It could explain why he has not been well of late.

Nursemaggie is right... particularly if he is favouring carbs rather than salad ;)

Last night he chose Chicken Madras (from the supermarket, not the actual Indian Takeaway).....I opted for macaroni cheese :D
It seems a bit odd if the GP hasn't advised him to avoid spicy food, but I can't ask him whether she did, as he's watching BT Sport on his laptop, with his headphones on :D

Just before Christmas we will be going to an "American" restaurant while visiting relatives some distance away. The table is booked, and the restaurant has advised that we should order our food well in advance as it will be a busy time.

Accordingly the menu has been forwarded to me by email, and there's not a single thing on it I'd ever be interested in eating, and especially I don't want to have to try and choose something when I feel so ugh

I really don't know what to say to that ivyleaf. Personally I would never agree to eating in an "American" restaurant without seeing the menu. If you listed every food in the world and I put them in order of preference I would probably list burgers and hot dogs below sheep's eyes

I may be exaggerating but I think you may agree. Perhaps you could persuade your friends to eat in a more suitable restaurant. Thankfully these days I am no longer outnumbered when it comes to McDo**ds and the like. I have not been forced to eating in there. Unfortunately when with my ex I was forced to eat in such places and then to add insult to injury forced to still cook an evening meal when I got home as he considered a big mac no more than having a sweet or a biscuit between meals.

Needless to say the last time I saw him he looked as if his septuplets were due any minute.

Could you e mail the restaurant and explain your dietary situation asking what they could do for you. Would something like an omelette or salad that could be made quickly be an option?

Do they do ribs Ivyleaf? I'm quite partial to them and if you got them to leave off the extra sauce its just generally tender meat, mildly flavoured. That with a jacket potato?

Mtstm, as for pay, Australia has it covered. We're on award wages set by the government for the job we do, how experienced we are and how long we've done it, plus a percentage for being casual and a fee (danger money ) for being in a hospital. Its about $6 an hour more than my last office job, but no holiday pay, which suits me fine.

I've seen the menu. They do have ribs but I'm not partial to them, such a lot of faff for so little meat. We are going there because DB's wife is American and they will be visiting from Germany so it will be a real treat for her, I know she's looking forward to it. I expect I'll opt for a Caesar Salad with the dressing on the side. It's in a small market town so not a big choice of restaurants, I really couldn't put everyone out by asking to eat somewhere else.

DB's wife will be slightly disappointed because she had chosen a 16 oz steak(ludicrous!) but then we were told the menu had changed and the 16oz steak wasn't available so she will probably have steak and ribs.

They do have a good choice of burgers, but I find those very difficult and tiring to eat.

She'll be right, as Mr Softstuff would say :)

Do they do a good old American mac and cheese? DD had this in the south and raved about it.

Well, it looks like my life as a laydee of leisure is coming to an end...some of you may know that one of my hobbies is baking & cake decorating, and I've been offered an opportunity to work in the kitchen of a local eating pub which has an excellent reputation for its desserts & cakes. It's a big departure from my professional life as a senior PA but somethings are too good to pass up on, so at 9am tomorrow I will be up to my elbows in sugar & eggs!
