I'm here, we've had DB, DSiL, DNiece & my brother's in-laws to visit, so did tourist stuff last night after an early tea, sat up til 12.30am chatting & had a slow start to the morning around the breakfast table. DNiece had a bowl of crispies, a croissant and 1 & 1/2 pain au chocs. She has very hollow legs for a 7 year-old!

Now waiting for DH to finish bottling his latest brews, before we enjoy a bottle of Rioja with some french bread, blue cheese & pate, watching the second half of Pulp Fiction...we know how to live up here on the Lancashire coast!

Speaking of the Lancashire coast, we visited the new Eric & Ernie statue in the Winter Gardens last night, it looks fab :)

...Hester, as I say to my lovely Hubby - any man can be a father, it takes a real man to be a Dad x My Hubby never had children of his own, but my kids are proud to have him as a stepdad, closer than their own dad unfortunately for him x

My DH is the same, treats my two sons as his own and calls them "our sons". He did such a lot for DS2 & DDiL's wedding last month, I believe (from my sources at the do ;)) that their dad was a bit embarrassed when he realised just HOW much :p
DH's parents adopted the boys as honorary grandsons back in 2006 and both boys were pleased to be included as part of the extended family - DS2 & fianc!e travelled to both of my in-laws' funerals beyond Edinburgh from London, DS1 couldn't get time off for MiL's, even though they didn't have to.

Kind of funny that Morecambe could only spring for Eric, but Blackpool went the whole 9 yards ;) I look forward to seeing that. I might be asking for homebrew advice eventually Floss.

It's lovely to hear of men stepping up and acting like real fathers. I don't think being a dad is genetic, my stepdad was more to me than my biological father could ever have been. Every time I do any DIY, it's him I hear in my ear telling me how to do it and encouraging me.

This thread really has some lovely people in it, and you all cheer me up, it's just like having a back fence. I always have this mental picture of Les Dawson doing his Sissie and Ada sketch when I come in here.:D
Second lot of soap was better, if anybody wants any stocking fillers just PM me - it's a really small selection and am selling very cheap as it's more therapy for me than anything else. Was thinking of doing it for charity but would need to find out more about that.
Got a book called London Labour and the London Poor - it's not very comfortable reading. Making me feel really guilty and wasteful!! I should be able to keep us on 1/6d a week lol not £45.
  • Busy day yesterday,we had dgd2 for the day, we went t o dd1's to plumb in her dw and wm. Then home to walk k the dog, dgd2 walked the whole way and played in the park on the way home. I made cottage pie for lunch and then she had a nap, she's coming next weekend too.
I've just spend £41 in the butcher's so need to make it last as long as possible.

Mar - so glad the thread has been able to cheer you up a bit. I did a post to you but I must have Monna's tablet gremlin 'cos it disappeared.

Love the Sissie & Ada reference - especially as people are talking about Stepdads as my second MiL was a dead ringer for Les Dawson! DH is the eldest of 6 and me and my boys were totally welcomed into his family and I loved my Mil as much as my own Mum - she always treated me as a daughter. DH has been a brilliant stepdad even though I have a civil relationship with my ex & the boys have always had plenty of contact with him and his family ( shame I can't say the same about DH's ex but that's another story)
Woke about 4.30am with a bout of cystitis starting.- the sachets had died in storage so have been drinking loads and a hotty bottle. Seems to be improving & I've found a tub of bicarb so hope that will do the trick.
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
  • I'm around but just feebly waving my hanky. I've been to the walking clinic this morning and been sent away with a course of antibiotics for a sinus infection. Teaching this afternoon and tomorrow morning should be interesting...
  • Silva I hope you feel better soon.
I've just experienced, for the first time, the dog's reaction to the postman, we were warned he was not keen.
This morning he was asleep on my lap under his blanket (his favourite place) when the postie arrived.
My letter box is double sided so the posties fingers were in no danger, but Winston launched himself off my lap from a standing start, slid across the laminate floor, cannoned in to the fish tank stand, righted him self, galloped along the hall, still wrapped in the blanket, barking ferociously. I'm in hot pursuit yelling 'don't touch my bloody post!' I have huge long gouges along my legs where he was scrabbling for grip.
It enlivened up an otherwise dull morning.

Softstuff, hubby is being duly rewarded for his hard work, when he has the energy!

Hester, I suspect when he has energy for nothing else, he has energy for that. You'd be proud of me in any case, although I needed practical undies, the set I bought yesterday was far from it :o I'm hoping it has the same effect as your work boots.

Sending hugs and get well wishes to Silvasava and Fairyprincess.

I'd order soap Mardatha, but the postage would kill me!

LOL can picture the dog Hester! And I quite fancy a bit of cottage pie...
No worries abt the soap SS, not worth posting abroad, postage is hellish.
Is it tonight the Vic Slum is on? I need to go and check. Really got into it. Latest book that's just come through the door is "London's Underworld" which might be a bit of a mind-boggler.
Thank you all for cheering me up, I don't get down for long though as life is what it is and we have to just go with it eh :)
