Fuddle - I suffer from stress asthma and exercise is difficult too - massively helped by Yoga breathing exercises to calm me down. I do have an inhaler that I use every day but I havn't needed an 'instant' inhaler or had an attack for over 20 years now.
I'm in total sympathy with your experiences at the doctors - DiL was complaining of painful breathing - it took 2 trips to the doctors and 2 to the drop in clinic before they diagnosed a collapsed lung!!!
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

I'm not asking for medical advice but I'm keen to learn what an asthma attack is. If we put aside the panic attacks all I have ever felt is shortness of breath when exercising (it's different to being unfit) and I have heard a wheeze when taking my peak flow when I'm a bit poorly. In terms of the asthma attack 'chest tightness' I don't really know what that is because I've had so many different episodes of pain in my chest that have been caused by different things.

Wow 20 Years! So asthma could very well mean I don't have attacks if it's managed well. I will look into the breathing exercises. Some kind person has told me that vitamin D is good for lungs too so I have read and invested this morning.

Did anyone watch the Doctor Who Gave Up Drugs on Beeb last night? Fascinating stuff. I do see the problems GPs face. It's definitely not easy for them but the machine that showed CRP levels is such a good idea in my opinion because had I had that measurement earlier than when in hospital it wouldn't, I'm sure, been as high as 490. The cost of the machine was up for debate as was the cost of the tests and time taken/employ ed person to do it but... How much did I cost the NHS with my stay when it probably could have been avoided had something been picked up sooner?

I loved how all the pain killers weren't working for the lady with the bad shoulder but I have to say that pain killers DO work when you really need them. I worry for the girl coming off antidepressants (I took myself off mine for anxiety 2 weeks ago and haven't even so much as felt a side effect... Did I really need them then?) because it broke my heart to see the pit she lived in for herself but where her daughter goes is clean, safe and tidy.

    I'll definitely keep watching.

And before I log off because you all need a rest from my ailments today, is anyone planing on going to the Festival of Thrift in Redcar?

Monna there's no need to retype all that PM, honestly. It's just good to know all can be forgotten and never visited again. :)

Fuddle I have EIA -exercise induced asthma and have only really had a couple of proper attacks, both at altitude in the Alps, so I wouldn't know what to expect either. I would suggest using your preventer daily will help, but I don't :o I do tend to be short of breath when it is very cold or windy, and always have a blue puffer with me.

I've just picked up my shears & secateurs from being sharpened, so am ready to join the attack. I will be wearing my allotment jumper with the "blood" stains (actually beetroot & raspberry juices!) to add to the general ambience!

fuddle and silvasava  at your experiences at the docs! That's truly awful. I saw that programme fuddle, fascinating as you say, but I too am worried about the girl with depression. OH was interested to watch it as he's on an NSAID prescribed by the pain clinic at the hospital when he'd been on diclofenac for ages and it wasn't helping much. The only thing he felt really helped his mobility was a drug that's been taken off the market as they found a lot of people taking it were having heart attacks or strokes  Maybe I should get him some sugar pills!

Fuddle I get very wheezy if I laugh too much as well as when there is a high level of pollution in the air, when it is foggy and when it is frosty. I don't think everyone gets the full blown "attack".

The worst I had was due to an allergic reaction to something, I never found out what, it was late at night so I took an antihistamine, my inhaler and slept sitting up on several pillows after it had eased a bit. I rarely use my inhaler now unless I am ill or struggling with one of the above.

I have been taking kelp for my arthritis for a couple of years or so now after having read about it on here and researched it for myself. The deep bone pain went but unmasked muscle pain which kept me awake at night and caused difficulty in walking in the day.

I found out about Magnesium oil from some Australian ladies so tried it out since finding some on Saturday. I cannot believe the difference. My muscles have relaxed and I have been able to sleep better. I have even used it as a deodorant, amazing stuff with so many uses.

Apparently most people are short on magnesium because the soil that our food grows in is depleted due to modern farming methods.

By the way it is not really oil, it is just very slick when in liquid form, it absorbs into the skin very well with no greasiness :)

I found out about magnesium on an ME forum grandma, they said on there that everybody with ME needs to take magnesium supplements. I've been o it for years - even though I never had the fibro or muscle pain. It does make sense re modern farming and the soil I think.

Mardatha I do take magnesium by mouth along with calcium but I cannot take more than the stated dose without it causing diarrhoea. I don't get that side effect when I use it on my skin.
  • Magnesium does cause diarrhoea. The amount you need is so tiny so taking more is only likely to deplete you in electrolytes.

The difference between asthma and just being out of breath is, when you run hard and get really out of breath is when it is exercise you are using up the oxygen faster than you can get it in. Asthma you are struggling to get your breath out.

I can tell the difference straight away. I only get wheezy with spray chemical for cleaning so I don't use them. It's mainly the spray bathroom cleaners that do it.
