I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Turtle beans is another name for black beans FUDDLE and I have an amazing vegan wholefoods shop in the city where you can buy things loose so can get the amount you want rather than 500g or 1kg packets. They're delicious and go in lots of things, favourite is Cuban Black Beans, check out the recipe, and I serve them with rice, a fried egg and if I can get it fried plantain which is like a very large green banana but isn't sweet and goes well with spicy dishes.

Get well soon, Fuddle, pneumonia is a bit of a sod but very treatable, and if you are a fairly fit person to begin with you soon recover. However, don't overdo it when you are home. Pace yourself, listen to what your body is telling you - Autumn lasts a good three months, you don't have to get all the winter preps done at once!

Talking of which, I saw a brilliant cartoon the other day. It was a stereotype old battle axe, grey hair, pinny on, surrounded by jars and jars of pickled and preserved fruit and veg. One of the front jars had a pickled cat in it, looking very bemused, another a scrunched up pickled man (her husband?) likewise bemused. The caption was something like "Right! That's me all done for the winter!"

I couldn't help thinking of a certain person on here (mentioning no names, Mrs LW) who is always pickling and preserving........

  • I've never pickled anything that breathed though NARGLE!!! My pal Sue who I walk the hound with who is Charlie retrievers mum cut me a little cartoon out of their paper which shows a lady talking to some visitors who have just arrived saying 'I've made lunch' to which they reply 'lovely' and the next picture shows the original lady saying 'Bottom of the fridge soup anyone?' now that I do own up to, she couldn't stop laughing as she gave it to me.........

Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Oh no, poor fuddle :( So sorry you're a poorly girl. I hope you get well soon, and afterwards you really need to look after yourself! Sending virtual ((HUGS)) as virtual ones don't hurt xx

8yo DGD is in hospital today having an op on her nose. She has a deviated septum, or as she puts it, "a bent bone in my nose" and they may take her adenoids out as well. We hope that afterwards once the swelling has gone down she will be able to breathe better, especially at night, and her "SATS" will be at the level they're supposed to be, at last.
