On a change of subject, i am reminded this evening of how wonderful it is that we have liquor stores in Australia as opposed to just selling alcohol in the supermarket. This evening hubby and I went to an event at the local liquor store, a whisky tasting. $20 tickets, but you get that back as a voucher in store. 11 decent whiskies tasted. Some more than once :rotfl: wonderful night. Made new whisky friends too!

Have to agree with you greenbee re information on the Internet so much wrong self diagnosis going on. Doc once gave me a website and said if you are going to look on the Internet use this one!

My consultant cheerfully told me not to look online as the information wasn't relevant (I'm an atypical case), and it would just tell me I was going to die. At the time I was far to ill to spend time looking online anyway... I've looked since, and he was right :) And I'm still alive.

I never said I objected to the mammogram, being thoroughly pulled about was just a joke. The longer term pain was my arthritis due to not being told where she wanted me and just being pushed and pulled. I was just informing you they are extending the age groups. I have not had one since I was 63.

I had measles, whooping cough and chickenpox straight after one another, it can't have been long after I started walking as I know when. I caught the measles from my cousin's cousin, they were on the same train we were on going to my maternal grandma's. Two weeks later we were at my paternal grandma's when I developed the measles and my poor mother was stuck in quarantine for six weeks, my grandma's insistence, my mother was not allowed to see another human being for six whole weeks. It may be highly virulent but you cannot catch it from the carer of the patient.

First time my mum took me out there was a child near us in the market and my mum heard him whoop. She thought how irresponsible to take a child out with such a disease! She was so frightened by me having it when she read in the paper they had a vaccine for whooping cough she went straight to the clinic to have my brother vaccinated.

They told he it would be available in a few weeks and they would send her a postcard. I think that was the longest few weeks of mums life followed by the six weeks of quarantine. All my kids have been vaccinated for everything and some, because of DD's travels and DS still at home having visited her in Morocco.

I think it is irresponsible not to have your children vaccinated. There are always some children who can't be vaccinated and a small percentage who it just does not work on. A vaccination program relies on what is called "herd immunity" If it drops below 95% you get problems.

Trouble is modern parents have never seen the problems these diseases cause. I had a friend who was left profoundly deaf after measles. Another friend who got rubella while pregnant, her baby was deaf and blind. The horrors of Polio and Diphtheria do not bear thinking about.

There is washing out again I hope I can get my shower curtain out in the sun before it moves round it had mould on it. Pity I can't put my bathroom out in the sun.

softstuff of course we still have "off licences" There is one on nearly every corner where I live.

Hi girls, sorry to read about all the medical problems. As my twins were premature (27 weeks), I refused the measles vac. A friend of ours in Liverpool agreed for their daughter, also premature to have it. The result, that they blame on the jab, is too sad to relate- bless her soul, she is no longer with us.
I am so glad this fence is still standing, mine is gone. I am also sad that some people try to demolish my thread about it, and then ...... it's so sad! Having tried to upset that one! They then move on to What have you lost? This thread actually started to be more of a benefit for some, then I anticipated. Why do they do it?
i have started a new thread at the Arms -Play it again Sam. It is about reminiscing about by gone days. I only pray that these people stay away from there. I find that there is no Garden fence for the men. I have received some PMs from men. So I am sorry, there seems to be a lot of lonely Gentlemen over at The Money Savers Arms. I just wanted to give them some fun, as well as support. So I can only drop by once in a while.
Uncle P had a great time yesterday. I wanted to tell you all the funny stories, but, I don't want to take over this thread - too much to read.
Bless you all and take care

Now, I assume you mean me. I've popped over because I feel you are being very selective in your interpretation of my posts.

No, I'm not stalking you or bullying you.... you seem to like to misconstrue what is said and then look to gather others in to support you (as you've done here, now).

This IS a friendly place and you are looking for conflict where none exists nor is intended.

Indeed you seem to have forgotten how you had some of your posts removed because they were deemed unacceptable.

Let's not make this more than it really is - a difference of opinion yes - nothing more.

You continuing this here is just unnecessarily spreading negativity and I'm feeling a bit 'got at' by YOUR insinuations.

Just thought I'd add my perspective too... there are always two sides and mine is the opposite to yours.
    :hello:
  • A sweet friend, that we helped out a little, is in my kitchen making us dinner for tonight. (It's still morning here) I can't tell you how excited I am that I don't have to cook! What a lovely way to say thank you. Not that we expected it at all, but it's just wonderful.

I've gained back a few pounds (4  ) of the weight I've lost. I know it's late night snacking so last night I went to bed early, woke up at 2am (didn't snack) and went back to bed at 5a until nine this morning. I lost a pound! :j It's unconventional but hey! who cares. At my age it doesn't matter when I sleep or get up. I'm not on any schedule.

Our one surviving tomato plant continues to give tomatoes. :T We tried a new variety this year (on the advice of a friend) and it has proved to be a wonderful decision.

Mila: I have discovered a similar thing. I eat the same thing (more or less) for breakfast every day, whatever I like for lunch, a cup of something and a small snack - often a bit of a treat - at about 5 pm and that is it, apart from water, until breakfast the next day. I do a lot of tooth brushing and mouth washing in the evening's to prevent me nibbling. At the moment I am 4 pounds off losing 3 stones. I wish I had discovered this years ago but I was brought up on 3 meals a day like most people.
My method won't work for everyone but as you have found, if it works for you, go for it.
Plays merry hell with your social life though. I find now that if I have a dinner in the evening I suffer all night.

Good luck with the tomatoes. There is nothing like sinking your teeth into a tomato still warm from the greenhouse. Gorgeous!.

I forget the off licenses Nursemaggie. The ones from my hometown aren't up to much now, they're a source for a few cheap cans and bottles, but not much of interest. I guess you get better ones in better/larger locations. I don't think people were suggesting you objected to the mammogram, I think a lot of the comments came after MTSTM said she wouldn't have another because they were painful.

Monnagran, I used to try and lose weight on 3 meals a day, but it meant focusing so much in the contents of each meal. Now I just don't eat every meal. Some others simply can't understand how you survive without 3 meals plus snacks, but I'm clearly not lacking calories :rotfl:

I was vaccinated for everything.... then got measles twice, mumps 3 times, rubella once and whooping cough as an adult. I find people not vaccinating their children scary, since herd immunity is what a fair few people rely on. I agree that there's a level of complacency, parents haven't seen the devastating effects of the diseases first hand, believe hype and fear mongering from irresponsible folk and think things will be fine anyway. I'd bet there are parents in developing countries where these diseases are rife that would do anying to get their children vaccinated. We're incredibly lucky to have the availability.

Re losing weight - I'm now trying to have as high a proportion of my diet as fruit/vegetables/grains as possible. For instance, what I had with my pasta sauce yesterday was courgetti instead of spaghetti. Zilch calories pretty much then in effect.

Think one of the things for me has been that I don't regard potatoes per se as calorific/etc - but it's what I have with them (ie butter with baked potatoes or oil if I'm doing them as spicy wedges). I wouldnt dream of eating a potato without "something" with it to flavour it - I had plenty of having to do that as a child:(.

So I think that little thing, for instance, will help.

Peering out the window again - and it's rain (again....). Oh well - the sun was nice whilst it lasted and I must get my !!! in gear and get out the door for some exercise anyway.

Started on a positive note anyway - having just read another post on the forum that translated into "they are putting a TERRIFIC amount of pressure on someone to do what they personally want:eek: by talking the way they are". The positive note being "Thankthelawd that I don't have anyone doing that to me - whew!" I've been reminded - as it's something I know you would fully understand Softstuff - and agree....

At least the only bit of pressure I got yesterday was a tiny bit of language pressure - but, give benefit of doubt, and person concerned might have done so out of absentmindedness (rather than putting on "pressure").

Another positive note - the neighbours have been "behaving themselves" for quite some time now. Whew - and fingers crossed things will continue that way. Feeling reasonably optimistic that "Peace Reigns" at last.
