Oh Lyn, how lovely to have you back! :):):) :j :j :T :T

FPk We've never managed to see the Perseids from where we live, too many houses in the way unfortunately! I hope you manage to see them though :)
  • Lovely to see you Lyn
Just to let you all know that it is only a stop gap short term solution having hubby's friend to stay.
I have managed to speak to him and he has a plan B in place, the problem is only the time between his wife's death and the funeral. It will only be for a very short time and we can manage that for him.

Unfortunately the forthcoming death of someone hubby has known since he was a teenager and who is considerably younger than him has hit him hard, he is doing his best to hold it together for his friend, but sometime I am taking his phone away and fielding the calls to spare him.
I'm going out with my DD's this evening and I will take hubby's phone with me & leaving him mine in case he needs to contact me.
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Hi everyone,
Sorry to read your dilemma Hester, It is what I call my NEXT!
I am in high spirits today, I have just come home from a 100th Birthday party at the care home.
My lovely Grace, Who I call my Amazing Grace, was so pleased to see me. I am her only visitor on a regular voluntary basis. She hung on to my card, as I put Amazing Grace, and she loved it. The Mayor went to see her, a card from our Queen, and live music! All too much at the end, as she refused to blow her candles out, and claimed she was NOT 100. "How can I be?" she said, "That's my friend Tips, I am the same age as her". Bless her Dementia is wicked. But on the other hand, maybe I would't want to celebrate that milestone. Who Knows?

Hi Lyn, you back from your travels then? Good to have you back.

Tips: I agree that being 100 doesn't really appeal but it depends.......
I know a lady who is 103. She still lives in her own bungalow although members of her family are trying to persuade her that she should go somewhere where she can be 'looked after'. Last time I heard they were having no success at all. She drove a car until she was well into her 90s and rode her bike until she was 98! I still hope to persuade my family to put a bag over my head when tell them that I've had enough.

Hester: I have already told you what I think. If Plan B seems to be taking a long time I suggest that you have one of your weekends where you have all your DGC to stay plus a dog or two. I think that would probably make ANYWHERE more attractive to stay.
Seriously, take note of what we are all saying. You and the L&M are the important ones here and you both have too much to cope with already, you really don't need this.

Burtha: I agree, sand in everything including your sandwiches is not an attractive prospect. I wonder if you ever got them all out of bed. My inclination would have been to leave them there, much less trouble. But there, I never did get my Mothercraft brownie badge.

Thanks for the reminder about Perseids, FairyP. If I can stay awake long enough I will go out tonight and have a look.

Am really enjoying watching the Olympics. It's the first time for years that I have had the opportunity and I'm making the most of it.

    Oh monnagran don't say that!
  • 'Lo MONNA, we've just had 4 Red Arrows fly over the top of our house heading towards you. He Who Knows just shouted and all 9 went over, wowsers, free display how wonderful.

Back home now and having fun with Cookie who is looking very pleased with herself for barking at them on the back lawn and now they've gone away absolutely because of her!!! she says!!!

Nell and Ruthie are away this weekend for a sisterly break, I know where they're going Nell doesn't and she's going to squeal with delight when she sees what Ruthie has booked by way of accommodation. Tell you what it is when they're there!

Harvest is in full swing, I'm being as inventive as I can with courgettes, inspiration needed please if anyone has a 'pet' recipe they'd like to share that includes courgette? I'd be really grateful.

Hope you are enjoying your weeks peace and quiet MONNA, apart from the odd fly by from the Red Arrows that is, Lyn xxx.

There is a trend for courgettini - spiralised courgette instead of pasta. I also sometimes bake a lasagne with no pasta sheets but slightly cooked, sliced lengthwise courgettes.
    "This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
    Preemie hats - 2.
  • Hi Elona, I've just unloaded the dehydrator having lengthwise sliced all those that were lurking in the kitchen to use as 'lasagne' in the winter instead of pasta and yes the courgetti is lovely and I do have a spiralizer and do make use of it. What I really need is fresh ideas for using the little wretches 'in' savoury dishes. We really do overproduce and I can never bring myself to just not use them. Thanks for the ideas though, very useful in the glut season.

Lyn, I missed the Red Arrows and am surprised that Millie didn't see them off in much the same manner that Cookie did. She is hot on planes, bicycles, other, well behaved dogs, who happen to pass our house, (How very DARE they?), cats, birds, imaginary gangs of robbers who are waiting to pounce on her but most of all......roll of drums........POSTMEN!!!! Having seen them off she returns waddling and exuding smugness. What would we do without them to protect us.

    Courgette Bake

    1 lb grated c ourgette
    1 chopped onion
    3 beaten eggs
    4 oz grated cheese
    1 tsp salt

Mix all the above. Flavour with herbs/curry powder/tomato puree or anything les you fancy.
Spread in a greased ovenproof dish.

Rub 2 oz of margarine into 4 oz SR flour till a fine breadcrumb stage. Spread on top of the mixture in the dish and bake at 180C/350F for 1 hour.

I have other recipes if needed.
