Camelot I gave up on chores after I finished my ironing (the cat was asleep on the bed so naturally I couldn't change bed linens...) I ended up re-lining a bag--it is one of those palm leaf bags that everyone in films carries to the french market. I bought it years ago, back when I travelled more often. This is the second time it has been re-lined. Mum did it the first time. Anyway, although I was able to pull out the old one and use that as a template I was making it from scraps and had to piece it slightly differently. This process was not aided when I absentmindedly used the bottom to make a pocket and then realized I no longer had a piece large enough for the bottom and had to join two together to make a new one. The bag has now had three fittings like a posh lady and a haute couture dress. :D

Mila If your husband won't try your efforts then it is only fair that you and the dogs should enjoy the largess. He doesn't know what he is missing!

Pollyanna Thanks for the info...I do like that trio, although I find trains interminably dull. Perhaps Ruth will do some cooking...on a train. I'll definitely check it out.

FPK - As far as I can gather it is about the changes steam railways brought to Britain , coal mining , slate quarries and a lot of other stuff is mentioned . I am hopeful it will be social history and development which is pretty much the way with previous series and one of my real interests . I always hesitate to mention tv programmes . Not a great watcher myself . I always wonder if people feel I wasted their time !

Polly, I promise not to fight with Mar over Peter or over jelly babies!
I think if Mar and I joined forces, we would be terrible to behold, maybe Monna could join us to keep us in check..
This evening I'm watching The Desolation of Smaug and starting another blanket, a blue and white one.
    Chin up, Titus out.

Sorry Hester but if you think I have any intention of keeping you and Mar in check think again. I think it is St Jude who is in charge of lost causes, try him.

After 40 years in the classroom I am more or less immune to anything. I managed to avoid colds and d and v, (I was 11 when I was sick last), (OK. 66 years ago). However I did have 'flu once.

Personally, I think that the unhealthiest place to be is the doctor's waiting room, which is why I avoid the place at all costs.

When shall we three meet again?
In thunder, lightning or in rain?

Don't even think of it either of you !
Have you had any more trips out Mar ? I hope you get some of the sun supposed to be headed our way during the next week . Is the rv feeling any brighter yet ?
Hester . I've completely lost track over the last few weeks . Have you looked at anywhere to move to yet or are you too pushed for time ?
I have scaled back on the knitting and sewing recently too short of time . I used to do a lot of cross stitch and still have the stash so am planning on adding to the homemade red , white and silver winter decorations . I have collected Rico and French General books when they have been on sale much reduced in price so will be using some of the designs . Easy to pick up and put down .
I know I've been mia but it's really quiet on here .
I did think when I was gardening earlier that everything seems to be ripening fast and things are earlier than usual . I think lots will be busy trying to deal with that .
    Hugs to all

Monna, it would be an uphill battle I'm sure, keeping us in check.
Mar, I have my own RV now, work is getting to him.
Pollyanna I'm still trying to get the house ready, we break up middle of next week and I have all the stuff ready to start painting the bathroom and study, it's all going to be white, white and more white.
I'm trying to keep upbeat but shed a couple of tears this morning when DGD said she was looking forward to our apples being ripe and we may not be here by then.
Still, chin up and Titus out, best foot forward and all that carp.
    Chin up, Titus out.

It's the little unexpected things that break your heart when you have to move and it's not altogether what you really want to do. Little traditions that have grown up while you were there, significant moments that have lodged in your memory, where you put the tree at Christmas, these are the sorts of things that crack your self control.

When I left my cottage I left behind the vision of my eldest DGD aged 3 standing under my flowering cherry tree while a breeze sent cascades of petals swirling round her. I can see her now with her arms outstretched, her face turned up to the sky saying, "Look Monna, it's raining pink." She will be 20 next week but that moment will be with me always.
Hester, you will have a lot of memories like that. Treasure them, but you will make new precious moments wherever you go.
