My laptop is on ten. It helps keep things compatible for all of the various people I work with and it is a relatively new laptop since my old one crashed. I don't mind ten, now that I'm used to it. I do mind the privacy concerns, as I do with several other things I use, but for now work utility is more important to me.
Very disturbed nights sleep last night so a wobbly start this morning. I've done a bit of work and will now head to the gym as I got back too late yesterday to go. I have yoga tonight as well, so I'll be properly tired when I get to bed.
I'm very disappointed with the forecast. We'd had a sunny warm day predicted for tomorrow and OH and I had planned a walk. There is now a day of rain predicted so we may have to reconfigure our plans. Still, I have all of the lunch bits in so we'll be prepared no matter what I decide.
Oh! and on a very bright note, I've been offered some more work hours for next term and they will fill some very important gaps on my CV which I've been trying to fill! This should hopefully put me in a better position for the next job cycle. Although I didn't expect to get anything this time around I was disappointed that I hadn't been shortlisted for any of the things I'd applied for and was worried about how to get more experience before the next cycle. This ticks those boxes, and the extra money will go straight into our house fund. It is still a casual offer, but is about as official as these things get at this stage. I'm both relieved and excited.0 -
That sounds very promising FPk! Good luck :j0

Evening all,
Delicious homemade falafel, although it has given me the hiccups! In the spirit of the make do and mend thread I've managed to get a swimming costume in the sales. I'm very long waisted so it has to be a two piece and the bottom was two sizes too big. However, a bit of sewing and it now fits brilliantly! Several pounds saved and it is probably the best fitting bottom I've ever had!
About to have a bath and then collapse on the sofa. I'm 1/3 of the way through knitting OH a scarf with wool reclaimed from a lambswool cardigan bought for £1. The cardigan was all sorts of hideous, but it was a nice color, and lambswool is so expensive. Still, would help if OH would 'wind his neck in,' it is taking ages to knit!:rotfl:
Hugs to all who need themx0 -
Way I look at knitting is the longer it takes the longer the yarn lasts and keeps my fingers occupied. One day you will get like me nothing takes a week many things can be done at the rate of two a day . It's hard to keep up with the cost of the yarn. I also run out of things to do.
Lambs wool is far too expensive considering it is a by product of the meat industry.
Just think how grateful your OH will be FPK when he is wearing the scarf next winter.0 -
Apologies for vanishing, I got sick. A friend of ours turned up to a barbecue we were at full of a nasty cold. When I saw the state of her I knew it was a matter of time. Hubby has finally come down with it today. We've both been a bit cranky about how we got it.
In amy case, normal service will resume shortly.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Tend to agree with you softstuff thoughtless of her to put her pleasure before the health of others.
You never know when what might seem to you like a mild illness could be passed, maybe not directly, to someone who is seriously of even terminally ill. It is is even worse to spread things in a social situation, than somewhere where, you have to be that can't be postponed.0 -

She'd been convinced to come by her husband and my friend. My other friend has a couple of kids and sees illness as an inevitable thing rather than something to avoid. We're firmly in the avoidance camp, even between the two of us at home we've managed to sometimes avoid sharing illness.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Don't do avoidance here, well we both work in a school and we have 9 DGC, mind you having said that, we neither of us catch anything much, probably because we've already had everything twice already.
There is a new way of dealing with absenteeism at work with support staff. If someone is out sick their work is no longer redistributed, it is just ignored and allowed to build up, for instance when the person in charge of distributing the post is off sick for a month, no post is distributed, it's just all piled up to await their return. No one receives items they are expecting so they reorder, so yet more stuff arrives. It's a funny old way to carry on isn't it.
DGD is still asleep as is hubby, he worked 6:30am - 4pm and 7pm - 9:30pm yesterday, so I don't think he be fit for much today.
I may start filling the bumpy wall in the bathroom today once DGD has gone home, or I may just pack all the spare bedding away, not sure yet.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
That sort of viewpoint makes me wild too Softstuff - ie that illness is "inevitable"/something to carelessly share and I've had arguments about that before now.
Life can provide quite enough problems (and ill health) without people being irresponsible and adding to it. Particularly as they know you have chronic health problems to cope with anyway. Grrr....
Hope you feel better soon.0 -
Softstuff I hope you and DH get through it and recover quickly x
Hester That is of course quite mad, but sounds absolutely typical of your workplace  I'd have thought, though, that people who are expecting stuff would come and have a look to see if it's arrived, if they know no one is going to distribute the post. Obviously not!
I see we're expecting some hot weather in the south at last, but only for a few days.
It was the first night of the Proms last night, and they began by playing the MarseillaiseThe applause went on for some time.
