I didn't get any washing done yesterday :o We had some shopping to do in the morning, and after lunch I fell asleep in my armchair! Still, I must have needed it. It will be done today instead! We're looking after a grandchild later though so I'll take things fairly gently.

My lovely Goan neighbour is worried about me and sent her daughter round with a dish of rice and lentils, bless her heart :A We'll have that tonight, as we'd already eaten when it arrived.
Some years ago she saw we'd arrived home from a long journey and brought us a chicken pilau.

Lovely to see you monnagran x

Thank you for that YouTube link nursemaggie.

Hi again Would anyone be able to give me some advice please regarding my laptop and windows 10? I know there is a techie thread but haven't got anywhere at the moment. We have windows 8 and we wanted to know do you have to update to windows 10, or can you carry on with using windows 8? We are not sure what to do. We did try to upload the free windows 10 as mentioned on MSE but after hours of it" down loading" we couldn't get it on ours. We have had our laptop just a few years and don't want to have to buy another one when this one is fine. I would really appreciate any help from you nice people on here. Thank you Margaret

I am still on Windows 7, which is still working fine for me. My adult DD is very techie and says why change things if you are happy? I guess if I had lots of problems, or wanted to do more tasks than just basic home computing stuff, then I would have to think about upgrading but I have read some horror stories. Although to be fair there are just as many who have upgraded with no problems. HTH

    Hi Margaret54

If you don't download it chances are it will do the same to you as it did to me, it downloaded itself. I deleted it and it did it again a few days later.

It spies on you worse than Google. You can get rid of it's spying by deleting Catana. My son came and deleted everything I did not need. This is where it would come in to speak to Techy Stuff, you can tell them if you are not tech savy.

On You Tube you will find a lot of people blogging about it. Some of it will scare you off but you need to use your judgement with some bloggers on there.

I am not sure if you have passed the date you can get it for free. If you can still get it the main thing is they will stop updating Windows 8 at some point. I would not be surprised if it is not soon.

If you know someone who will delete the bits you don't need especially catana I would recommend it otherwise it will advertise to you all the time getting in the way of you doing things. That is why they are giving it away. I find Google bad enough without Windows doing it as well.

    I hope that helps.

I've read the horror stories too about "upgrading" from "Windows 7" and it's very much my feeling of "If it ain't broke don't fix it" (because then it probably will be broke).

I up-graded to windows 10 (free) as windows seemed to be shutting lots of things down on the lap top. I haven't had any problems.

My operating system is Windows 7 - I downloaded 10 and found none of my Bluetooth worked. I am fairly au fait and tried various fixes and drivers as it seems to be a fairly common problem. I got so fed up I uninstalled it and have reverted back to 7. Microsoft are still offering it free and from what I can find out 7 & 8 will be operational for a few years yet - they will just phase out the updates eventually. By then my computer will be old technology anyway so will probably renew the whole lot in time for Windows 11 or 12 lol
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

This program will prevent windows 10 from installing. I had it install itself on our old desktop. I do not like it but the kids find it is faster than it was before so ended up leaving it but did not want my laptop changing. At least not for the moment. Lots of programs no longer work once windows 10 is installed as it does not seem to support them.

Our desktop PC still runs Windows XP. My laptop runs Windows 7 and I'll stick with that as long as possible, since it took me long enough to get used to the slight differences between that and XP :o
