The Garden Fence - help and support in tough times
Comments
-
Up at 2.00am this morning to let the dog out and was amazed to see trees almost horizontal, the patio doors blocked by roof of the Wendy house, various pieces of garden furniture in unusual and unexpected places and a general scene of chaos. This morning it looks worse in daylight.
I am here on my own as the family are on the mainland for a wedding and a visit to the other branch of Keith and kin. KITH, tablet, KITH.
I'm taking the opportunity to do a few things that could possibly be thought of as interference if I wasn't alone. Giving teatowels a boil wash for one. Today I'm tackling the kitchen cupboards in the hope of freeing some space to call my own.
It's been a strange Easter this year. As those of you who know my history will remember, up until now I have been very involved with church and the services and celebrations thereof. For the first time ever I've had nothing to occupy myself and have spent the last few days feeling like a spare part. Consequently I have felt a bit lost and emotional and wondering where my life is heading. It does seem that this climb out of the slough of despond that I am engaged in consists of a few struggles upward followed by a swift slide back down again. Sometimes the effort of making the best of things and trying to rebuild my life is just too hard.
Sorry to be so gloomy. It's just the mood I'm in and all will be normal again shortly.
I hope all those dealing with the aftermath of Katie will manage to cope with whatever damage has been caused and that everyone else will enjoy their day off.
And to all of you coping with REAL problems, hugs and love.
Sorry again for the self-indulgent moaning.

keep on moaning
i wish i could give you a hug
(editing to add, gone a bit teary now, i'm not good with words but someone will be along soon with comfort)0 -
monna, it's not self-indulgent moaning it's how you feel and if posting your thoughts helps (and it will), then moan away.
I hope you have all survived the storm without too much damage, I was in Yorkshire yesterday and it was very rough but home today and all is calm, not dry and sunny but no storms.0 -
Monna I am glad to hear you are safe despite the weather last night . I thought of you yesterday when I saw the warning for the Island ( as I am sure did others on the threads )
The purpose of a garden fence when I was a child and until a few years ago when the habit seemed to wane , is for friends and neighbours to discuss all sorts . The good and bad times and all manner of things . I know you will probably never meet the majority of us but we are your friends . I love your spirit and for all the laughs your tablet and you and Hester give , I am well aware your life has been turned upside down . It is good to get these feelings out . You can't be funny and brave all the time - none of us can .
Baby Steps Monna . You are in our hearts and our thoughts and my Lavender Candle is still lit nightly for you ,GQ and a few others .

Monna darling, those are real problems. Wish I was near enough to give you some real hugs. Try to keep trusting and listening, and eventually you will discern what to do next xxxx In the meantime, enjoy boiling those tea towels. It's lovely knowing they're really clean, isn't it!
So sorry for those of you living further South - it was bad enough round here last night! I heard car horns and cries of fright on the nearby main road at about 1 a.m., and today there is a car parked opposite us with two of its windows smashed and covered with polythene, so I wonder if it was going along the main road and some roof tiles blew off and hit it(We're in a town) Hope the occupants are all right.
Next door's front fence has broken in the wind - OH and I propped it up as best we could, as it was on the pavement, and the owner is coming to have a look tomorrow. A family member of theirs lives there atm, but is away.
We have a tiny joint of topside for dinner tonight - we were going to have it yesterday, but we'd also bought a huge chicken breast fillet from the butcher's so thought it best to use that first, in a stirfry. We had so many veg that we didn't need all the chicken, so about two-thirds of it is in the freezer
Oh, DD1 is feeling a bit better every day; she can't walk far yet or lift anything, or the pain comes back, but in this weather she's better off indoors anyway!0 -
Ivyleaf Glad to hear your daughter is doing well . Whatever their age we still fret about them don't we ? It sounds as though you were lucky to escape any damage in the winds . Hope you enjoy your meal and get to put your feet up for a while .

Ivy I read that as topsoil - I thought my god things must be getting bad0 -
Hi Monna - you can say how you feel on here anytime. When you have despondent times we will all try to support you and lift your feelings. Huge hugs. ( Must admit I do see a glimmer of the subversive Monna waiting 'till everyone's away to boil the teatowels - mwah ha ha)
I'm not many miles from you across the water Monna and a fair bit of damage around, broken fences, walls, trees down, Langstone Harbour Masters launch stuck under Langstone bridge!!!
Went to the sailing club today as they were holding a jumble for charity. DS1 & I and a friend made Bacon Butties, tea and coffee and managed to boost the coffers by £50. Good result given that there wasn't a huge turnout - but the smell of grilled bacon does tend to be irresistible
Hope e eryone has a good day xSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Monna, keep on with the snakes & ladders of life, you will find some more ladders soon I am sure. Meantime, keep on with the subversive tasks!
Well the weather forecasters got it proper wrong up here... sunshine on Saturday, yesterday AND today when it was supposed to be rainy. Still a cold edge to the wind despite being allegedly spring!
DH has been working on his current project all weekend, almost done now, with a yard full of sawdust & small bits of wood to clear up (although I did see some of the sawdust escaping into the back lane under the gate!). Sausages, mash, broccoli & onion gravy for tea2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
