The Garden Fence - help and support in tough times

Good morning to all.
Softstuff I will supply the cake and tea, how does a nice Victoria sponge and a slice of tea loaf sound.
I am going to venture into the kitchen later on today and talk one of the girls through how to make cottage pie for tea using up the leftover roast beef. The topping will be a potato, carrot and celeriac mash.
I also need to see what needs using up in the fridge. I feel a slow cooker bottom of the fridge soup might be in the making.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Mrs VP thanks for reminding me, I need to see what fruit and veg need using up before they go off. Have been at work the past couple of days and OH,although capable of feeding himself and DS, does not put the amount of veg or salad into meals that I do. I know there is a chunk of watermelon and some pears that need using up, so there is the base for a fruit salad. A butternut squash is looking at me, asking to be turned into soup, so that is lunch sorted.
In the meantime it is good to see some of the old gang back, including Popperwell and fuddle, shove up along the fence there, guys, there's room for many and more......whose turn is it to put the kettle on?One life - your life - live it!0 -
Morning all, I have a freezing house this morning, we didn't light up the woodstove yesterday as we went to the pub quiz in the evening and I had forgotten how quickly it could become arctic without the residual heat from the masonry bricks after the burner goes out. We'll light up early today and try to bring up the ambient temperature but for now it's extra layers and keeping active I think!
Lovely to see you back FUDS it's a good week indeed when two old friends join in again, makes me happy! Lyn xxx.
Please could I have a small cupboard on my bit of the fence? I'll keep it stocked up with homemade biscuits for us if I can and it will be in the 5foot 6inch part so likely in the middle and easy to reach from both ends!0 -
If you're having a cupboard MrsL I bags the drinks cooler for stocks of HM wine (medicinal purposes, celebrations and commiserations only!)Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Nearly at the finish line. I promise I'll share pics when the flat is done xxSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Hello Pops.
Sorry to hear about your ankle Mrs VP.
Softstuff how's the renovation going? We are zooming along it feels like here, upstairs all decorated, roof fixed, electrics earthed, living room decorated, wall knocked down, wall put up. Lots more to do but it feels like we're getting somewhere. As soon as carpets are done we can build the children's beds and wardrobes and get stuff put away which will be a huge relief, I am heartily sick of moving the same boxes around.0 -
That is a nice idea Lyn. If we are in size order I am right at the end of the line. Don't you think we ought to all be topping up the biscuits. If I bring the two tea caddies I have you can all use it up and I will not buy any until I know I am having visitors. I find these days most plumbers electricians etc ask for coffee if I give them a choice.
No one will want any of my baking. I think I have worked it out that the difference in heat between the back and the front of my oven is about 100 degrees. Oh the trials of rented accommodation and built in ovens. Baking just does not like that sort of variation but a casserole does not mind. I have a recipe for sugar free oat cookies can't remember which thread it came from, don't think it was this one. I am sure a few would like it but it ought to be tested first.
Yesterday I dropped 2 ltrs of milk! it broke the bottle. Managed to get most of it into jugs but who knew how far about 100mils of milk could go. It went on every surface. My kitchen has had a good clean but will have to wash the floor again. Was waiting for the temperature of my kitchen to get above zero before spring cleaning. It does not do my arthritis any good getting that cold.
Will have to go to town this afternoon as after washing door mat it is now in holes. The other mats in the kitchen washed lovely so ought to do them more often.0 -
Now possession you have just shown me the advantages of renting. All I need to do is clean all the cupboards and unpack. Can't do the rest.0

Oh Maggie, so sorry about the milk
What a lot of hard work it made!
Lyn Hope you're all toasty warm this morning. At 5 ft 5 in I should be quite near the biscuit cupboard, jolly good
Fuddle So pleased to "see" you
wondercollie So sorry about your shoulder. I hope you can get a Duty to Accommodate line if that's what you need. Sending you best wishes. How is your son getting on?
Possession it sounds as if you're doing really well :j
I've been wearing a heart monitor for 24 hours and have just handed it back in. So pleased to be rid of it. I kept getting in a tangle every time I went to the loo :rotfl:0 -
