  • Popperwell,

...and thinking re cherries...did you know that they are a natural remedy for gout?

I didn't either - until I had some in a foot some while back and couldn't believe my eyes when I checked out what the pain was and realised it was that.

I was astonished to have it...but promptly started looking up info. and read about cherries and spent the next couple of days or so positively gorging on them (canned ones as I recollect) and that put that right and <touch wood> not a trace since.

Got to say I am feeling crap! :(

Had this ear thingy the last couple of days, feels like my ears are 'fugged' up. It kind of swaps from left to right and then back again. If anything is too loud, blimey it really affects my hearing terribly.

Tried massaging down my neck and also the lymph glands as well, had a small improvement but I am hoping this is on it's way out.

I've only managed to lurk on this new thread so far - thanks nuatha for starting it.

So nice to see you back pops, and Lyn I wanted to send a big hug and woof to dear Docky from me and the labradors. I hope you and your boy have many more happy times. Enjoy your weekend away.

I was about to set out with Dd for a dental appointment as a follow up to all her orthodontic treatment when the surgery rang to postpone till next week. Grr! I'm sure they could have given us more notice. The upside is that the sun has come out and I have time to sit in the conservatory and enjoy the warmth after spending my 'day off' rushing round trying to catch up. I was thinking of returning two skirts while we were in town as I'm not convinced they are right for me. They are rather long and flowing which is fine as I am 5ft 6 and can take a longer length, but I am also only around 8 stone so can end up looking like sack of potatoes if I wear something too voluminous :rotfl:
I have a couple more weeks to get a full refund so will have another trying on session some time. The skirts are intended as work wear as so many of my outfits are looking very 'tired' and I like to at least try to be smart (it doesn't come naturally and above all I have to be comfortable).

Spot on about the gout, I was amazed. TBH I developed it and thought it was just my condition getting worse, then when it affected the big toe...that was the clue so now hopefully I spot the symptoms before it runs away.

I thought of returning but things runaway from you and wasn't sure who would still be here :) someone who does post on here and I got to know off the board had mentioned about returning. How much time has passed by.

Obvious suggestion is wax but you've probably already thought of that...

  • Thanks for the well wishes everyone. The funny thing is that the day before I fell and broke my ankle I was at a Falls Prevention Convention :p.
nursemaggie I know I probably won't get a walking boot next week. It is wishful thinking on my part because of the difficulty I am having with the crutches. I have found my bra a handy receptacle for carrying things other than my boobs :D.

SDG31000 sprained ankles tend to be more painful than breaks and leave you prone to further sprains.

Rainday have you tried steaming over a bowling water? It is very good for lots of ear nose and throat complaints.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

    Afternoon all,

My sour dough mixture is resting...hopefully things will progress as planned. I'm trying to come up with a plan for the next few days. One course of action will be some deep cleaning. Another is to make some bagels. OH likes them for breakfast at the weekends, but even on offer the ones he likes (he would like the expensive ones!) are £1 a bag. I let it go while things were busy, but now I've some time I'll make a couple of batches and get them into the freezer. They are a little time hungry, and mine are always a bit lumpy but they taste nice all the same. I'll even slice them before freezing as an incentive for him to use the HM ones. Gardening is on the list as well, although requires a trip to get seeds/plants.

I'm still trying to work out what parameters I want to use for my frugal food challenge next month. Our normal shopping budget for the month would be £180. I may see if I can do it for half that without depleting the stocks too much. I know I could do it for less, but the point isn't to have to make it up next month re-stocking or to make us so miserable we never want to do it again. I'll be listing all of my best 'extra cheap' healthy meals and trawling through recipes to see if there are any I've forgotten about.

Tonight's tea is a warm salad with new potatoes, asparagus and goat's cheese. We don't have it often, but with both the spuds and the asparagus on supersix it seemed like a good match for this week's meal plan. OH is being terribly slow on finishing off the banana bread, so it is that for pudding again. I'm not such a fan, so wish he would eater bigger slices so I could bake something else.

Lovely to see some old faces.

    My mum loves cherry juice.

Right, that is my cuppa finished. I think its time to swirl bicarb round all the mugs. Its been a couple of years since I've done it and they've taken on a strange hue!

Mrs VP and Rainy-Days I wish you both a speedy recovery--Rainy-Days any luck with hot steamy showers?

Wow - been MIA for a short while and so much has happened!

First - comiserations to Mrs VP do hope you mend quickly.

Next - Pops so good to have you back with us - have you decided what colour and height etc you would like for your part of the fence - we'll all shuffle up to give you some elbow room ;)
Lovely spring day here - raises the spirits no end. Nothing of any consequence to report so wishing everyone a good evening

Ps - strawberries are good for gout too - helps to neutralise the uric acid crystals
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Pops If you get a mobility scooter you could have races with McCulloch :D (Only joking, I know you wouldn't.)
