Odd question, does anyone have a bidet? Wondering about one for the main bathroom, just don't know if it looks odd nowadays?

Don't have one, but always found them perfect for shaving your legs :D

I have been thoroughly-investigated for gut issues and tested for celiac disease, even to having cameras where cameras don't naturally go, and the conclusion was IBS. A few things trigger it; MSG, lots of starch and, gawd only knows why, cauliflower. Not cabbage, not broccoli, but there's something different about cauli.

I am massively sensitive to MSG, lots of anxiety (kind of feel like I am on the edge of a cliff) and can't sleep, after I do I wake up with a hangover, even if I haven't drunk anything.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

:o I don't have emotional effects from MSG, just loose bowels the following day (you really needed to know that, didn't you......):rotfl:

Hope you enjoy your cold frame, monna. Won't be too much longer until I'm ready to start using mine. It's made from wombled timber with a window from a 1950s bungalow. It wasn't used last year.

Or, correctly, it wasn't used by me, I did have a nest of tree bumblebees in it - the cold frame was formerly up the top of the allotment against the back fence and had been swamped by brambles coming over the back. I couldn't bear to disturb the bumblers so didn't actually re-locate it until this winter.

Have now got it further down the lottie, on three slabs. It's treated with dark brown woodstain (to help it warm up) and I'm expecting that the slabs will hold some heat, too.

Thank heavens the weather is brightening and allotmenteering is once again about to become an enjoyable distraction. Eh GQ, I read your other posts, busy busy is the trick. You will be able to relax afterwards but `til then, mind busy, body busy. I have a neighbour who got the result he didn`t want, I made him some lovely `good luck` socks, he wears them every time he goes for a test. Clear for 3 years now and handles each day with optimism :grouphug:

Oh, my friends. Are you ready for a good laugh.

We collected the cold frame yesterday. It was in a smallish box. DIL refused it at first because she said that it was advertised as 'a small greenhouse'and this box would have struggled to contain a goldfish bowl.
When we opened the box there was an even smaller box inside.

By this time I was in hysterics and my DIL was all but foaming at the mouth. Finally the (very) small greenhouse was revealed. It was SO pretty, painted a fetching shade of turquoise and standing on the kitchen table it looked cute. It was indeed a miniature greenhouse, suitable for a good sized doll's house. I might get about half a dozen egg cups in it.
Under pressure DIL admitted that she had thought it was very cheap and hadn't actually looked at the measurements.

I don't suppose you have any more 1950's windows hanging about your flat GQ?

We had planned a visit to the garden centre so we went anyway and treated ourselves to lunch. Littl'un was entranced by a mat with a "fozen" picture on it that played, "let it go" when you stepped on it. DS said the only 2 things missing from his life were a miniature greenhouse and a singing doormat, so we returned home empty handed.

Oh monna, a mini greenhouse and a singing doormat. I know grown men and women who blench when that flipping fwozen song plays, what sadist thought it would be a neat idea to have it in doormat?! Surely that consitutes a cruel and unusual punishment and is probably in breach of the Geneva Convention.

Been busy on the allotment and have taken up all the leeks and they're now stashed in the freezer, sliced and ready to go. Plenty more work left to do up there and, as kittie says so rightly, busy is what you want to be. Going to return for another sesh tomorrow morning then off to pals in the afternoon for high tea and low games (ludo, I expect).

I have to say that I giggled at your misfortune Monna. Your poor, poor DIL :D

Well I have decided, with a google search as back up, the the variety of rhubarb that is flourishing is Timperley Early and that I should harvest very soon :D I could, of course, come to the wrong conclusion and pick summat not quite right but worth a try. Jam I think.

I need a heated propagator to start off cucumber seedlings... will a hot water bottle and a plastic bag do?
  • We start our cucumber seeds off in a pot on the window sill that gets the morning sun, we don't have a propagator. He Who Knows has also started the seeds germinating in lidded Tupperware type box lined with kitchen towel in the airing cupboard but most modern homes don't have one these days. He says he'll have a read of his gardening books for you and if there's anything else that might help we'll post tomorrow xxx.
