The Garden Fence - help and support in tough times

Wow! What a night. I think snow was the only thing we didn't have. At times I couldn't tell whether the roaring sound was the sea, the wind, the thunder or the hammering of the rain or hail on the roof.
However, it seems quite light now so I must go out for a quick walk and get some fresh air. Lovely to feel like going out instead of pulling the duvet over my head and weeping under the covers.
I've actually bought myself some proper food - a YS chicken Breast which is big enough for 2 days, a parsnip, some sprouts, a leek and carrots. I will do myself a proper roast dinner and have it at about 2pm. DIL does her main meal in the evening which doesn't suit me at all. Now, doesn't that sound elderly and boring? Can't help it, it's a fact. I also think that it is not particularly good for a three yearold to have her main meal just before she goes to bed. And that is quite enough old fashioned wisdom for today.
Kittie: you have been on my mind since yesterday. I pray that you have some encouraging news soon. I don't suppose that you can think of anything else at the moment but do look after yourself, won't you.

Lovely mix of snow and sleet here, I have never seen such miserable looking sheep as the ones looking over my back fence lol - poor wee things must be sodden.0

It's been another very wet and windy night here again . This morning grey and miserable , however in the last hour the sky has lightened and an odd combination of black and grey clouds bits of blue sky and the yellow ball has appeared . I've just had a wander around the back garden while waiting for a washload to finish and found one of my lonicera winter beauties in full flower , lovely blue and white grape hyacinths , two tiny little primula vulgaris flowers and a smattering of tiny little devon violets. All of these are much earlier than normal but so uplifting - I know with the forecast for the next week it may be a brief show of beauty but so good for the soul and for now I can ignore the amount of water around them .
I hope you are alright Kittie and enjoy your roast Monna .
Sending warm wishes to all . I must go wrestle laundry . I have two very long garden washing lines and very strong winds coming in from the Irish Sea and I so long for days when the washing can go out most days - how sad is that ?

Popperwell - the John Lennon quote is a line from his song Beautiful Boy (on the Double Fantasy album he did with Yoko), it was written for his son Sean who was about six or seven at the time.

I think that whilst planning is good, we sometimes should just enjoy the moment. One life - your life - live it!0 -
Old fashioned wisdom is the best and normally with life learned common sense. If my two eat late there is normally an increase of restless sleep and night mares so it makes sense to me.
We were all suited and booted for a forest walk then the heavens opened. It wasn't forecast. We're having yet another day in
Polly a bit of frost may appear next week, and dare I saw some more of the flattery white stuff. Hope you get some too!
It's been fab having you on the threads Polly and so pleased you have come out of lurkdom.0 -
Fuddle - I wrote a long reply earlier which disappeared into the ether . Thank you so much for the lovely welcome . Since decloaking - copyright GK :rotfl:I have had such kind comments . It's a shame your forest walk was rained off but there's always another day - please look up at the sky for me !
I have for years followed your journey ( in a non- spooky way ) and it has been lovely to watch you grow , mature and develop over time . You have a lovely little family and I wish only good things for you all .I was thinking over your knitting post since yesterday . I don't want to take the spring out of your step but I have first hand experience of what sounds like your magazine and it isn't a pretty tale . If I have got the wrong idea and it is not something which costs hundreds in the end then please ignore this .
If you are ever stuck re knitting give me a shout . Of course there are many other knitters on the threads too .

Well done again MONNA, eating a proper meal in this cooler weather is going to make you feel warmer and better. I'm another one who prefers to eat the main meal at lunchtime rather than in the evening, if I eat too late I don't sleep at all well and often wake up uncomfortable in the night.
Have you heard the fireworks from Southampton this evening? I heard the big ship siren going which the cruise liners do as they leave dock for a voyage, really noisy here but I don't know if it carries across the water to the I of W, there must be something big going off to warmer climes, lucky devils!0 -
No Polly, you're definitely on the right track with the knitting mag. It's not something I would ordinary waste money on but I really would like learn and with the mags giving step by step instructions and also the pattern in knitting speak I feel like I need to give this avenue a try. I really do agree with what you're saying and I can crochet a blanket for a lot lot less but I want to do this. I'm not subscribing so if ever I need or want to stop, I'll just not buy.0

No problem Fuddle . I have the t shirt re that mag ! My daughter never managed to learn to knit from that long series .
I recommend the knitty gritty books which finally did the trick there are two a beginner and a more advanced . They are the best I've ever looked at . Most importantly all the projects are useful and wantable .
We paid 14.99 each in 2012  I looked on am and both books are now available in one volume from a few sellers at 4.99 new + p&p .
This frees up yarn money .
BTW I didn't write the books :rotfl:
