I finally got around to putting the tree up at the weekend
I'm going to see DGS's school play this morning. He doesn't have a speaking part but he's in the choir and has a lovely singing voice, so really looking forward to it :j0 -
I found a christmas decoration yesterday, a table centre, so I put it on the mantle piece. That is us decorated no point in putting anything up only to have to pack it soon. We are not here much too busy cleaning and decorating.
Sheila We will not be decorating again the point of all magnolia is it is cheaper to buy one big tub. DS is moaning all the time won't get up in a morning and spends the rest of the day trying to get out of it. I am not exactly well enough to do the job it is proving difficult.0 -
Hello everyone!
I was reflecting on my year in the run up to Christmas and it dawned on me just how long it was since I checked in here so I have spent a very delightful couple of hours skim reading a lot of pages and feel the need to dole out lots of virtual hugs and cake and tea and coffee together with the occasional G&T, glass of wine and stiff whisky, together with a few high fives and some very gentle loves to those in need.
I'm sorry it has been so long but in my defence it has been a very busy year. So the edited high lights from where I dropped out not long after little Miss Stilty had done speech number 1
- yes number one! She has now done 3 and is nagging me for number 4 with a recent appearance on a Manchester Metropolitan Uni press release and a couple of potential video appearances coming up! Biggest audience to date was 149 at our forum arranged training conference!
- She is also doing great things in her new wheels and is making awesome progress at school.
- speaking of school - young Master Stilty has started school!! He's doing ok, a couple of teething prolems but actually way better than we expected so all good.
- and also as to education - I finished my degree!!!!YAY!!!! Massively proud of myself to get a 2.1 despite ll the challenges.
- I'm now sole chair of the parent carer forum so massively busy with that which is my feeble excuse for not visiting back here sooner, doing heaps of meetings and really starting to make headway in promoting the parent voice in our local authority so doing good!
- Once DS was at school I resolved to try to get a little craft business going - intended to do it September but forum work was busier than I expected so was way later before I got organised but I now have a facebook page with my felt accessories on - did a craft fair with my parents in Nov and earned enough to have a real splash out at the Knit and Stitch (investing for future of business, honest injun!!) so will be working on that some more in the new year.
- The sensory garden I set up for the kids was a massive success, both for them (we spent so much time outside in the garden even in less than lovely weather) and also for friends who came round to visit - we had visits this summer from families we are friends with through the special needs stay and play we attend who were able to sit and chat and have a coffee with us, all grown up together while the kids enjoyed the garden in safety which was rather a novel experience for them.
Think that's about it, but given my long absence I've no doubt forgotten much and missed out more. Much love to all of you and my new year's resolution will be to check in more often! - Hx0 -

Hello gb61 :hello: Welcome! This is a very nice thread, though it does sometimes go a bit quiet when RL gets in the way
Stilty How lovely to hear all your news! So glad all's going well on the whole :j
I saw on tv that some places have daffodils in bloom. Mine are coming up, but not flowering yet. Though the osteospermums are still flowering! Wish the weather would dry up enough to cut the grass though - the cat comes in from the garden very damp from the long grass and then goes up and gets on the bed. If I spot him coming in I can grab him and dry him with an old towel, which he hates
I think I'd prefer it to be colder but sunny, rather than mild but grey!0 -
Hello stiltwalker, see you found the space at the Garden Fence with your name on it, where in finer days we stand and chat over endless cups of tea, coffee, whatever...glad to hear life is good for you, and well done on the degree, I remember an enormous sense of relief when I finished mine a few years ago!
And welcome gb 61, this is a nice thread, think Cissy and Ada in their pinnies and curlers gossiping over the garden fence on the Les Dawson show....but we're a more eclectic bunch! And not a hair curler to be seen! One life - your life - live it!0 -
Welcome gb61, always good to have new people to chat to over the fence.
Well I've just phoned for someone to give a quote to repair ours as its damaged beyond DH's DIY skills.
We have some beautiful roses in bloom just now due to the mild weather but it does all feel a bit strange.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Hi Stiltwalker - lovely to get your update. Well done on the 2.1 :T and to little miss stilty - she's getting to be a real celebrity
Welcome too gb61 - wriggle in on the fence and we'll pass you some cake and a cuppa
Getting the Christmas decorations down from the loft today & they'll go up over this weekend. I'm also going to do my main shopping and get the last few bits today and hopefully miss out the crush
Have a good day all xSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
stilty Sorry, forgot to congratulate you on the degree! I'm amazed you managed to do it when you are so busy  So pleased for you!0
