  • Hi SILVASAVA we're still debating the outcome of the vet visit. The tumour has grown quite fast in the past couple of months after seeming to slowly increase for about 18 months. The vet is saying we could consider having a reductionectomy but the gamble is that if we do it might grow back rapidly and then the skin that has stretched slowly over it will have been removed and we'll end up with a gaping wound the other possibility is that they would get part way through and find the skin stuck and not be able to remove any further. The alternative is to up his medication and keep him as comfortable as we can until we think he isn't coping and let him go. It's complicated by the fact he seems to have developed a heart murmur too. Time for big cogitating and making the right decision for him may not be where our hearts take us and we'll have to listen to our heads instead. Difficult times!
  • Lyn, I am so sorry, decisions like that are so hard to consider but I know you will do the right thing for Docky.

Sending you love and hugs and a big hug for Docky

Her beak has been full of nesting material, oh I do love spring , I actually come awake at this time of year .......

Time to start putting the cat's "jingle bell" collar on when she goes out then, sigh.

Cranky - I shut the cat flap last thing at night so my puss can't try to catch them early morning. It helps that she uses a litter tray (sigh) I do this until the babies have flown the nests. Seems to work with her but she's not a dedicated catcher thank goodness.
We've got a pair of goldfinches that use our birdbath so I'm hoping they'll be staying.
Did a tour of the 'estate' this afternoon to see what's emerging. I've got a 'cherry plum' that I think was planted when the house was built in the 30's. I look after it - prune now & again & occasionally feed it & we've had crops every year but this year its absolutely covered in buds right to the tips of the branches. Just hoping we don't get a late frost &the weather stays warm enough for the bees to work.
Just had to stop posting 'cos we've a small tortoiseshell butterfly flying round the sitting room - think he must have been on one of the logs. Managed to get him in a cup & put him out on the log pile!! Hope he'll be OK

Lyn.....Your sensible enough to know whem the time is right to say goodbye to your dear docky, lets hope you are able to have a few more months first.....
I remember losing my little Rosie chihuahua , things kept going wrong in the end , if it wasnt her heart it was her kidneys , then breast cancer , but im so glad that she passed her peacefully in my arms, she was the first dog that died at home , all my other dogs had to be put to sleep......
Ive had a fair few dogs because I always had rescued dogs and some of them were middle aged when I got them, so it felt to me that their lives were short......Enjoy your boy while you have him.....
Silvasava....Ive never tried the 5.2 diet , What sort of food do you eat when your on the 5 day ?.........Good luck with that ...Sheila
My motto is " one life live it ".....:)
  • Thanks SHEILA much appreciated and I do remember the passing of Rosie, and hurt with you but as you say, we WILL do the right thing for Docky whatever the cost to us because he's our boy and we love him!

Hi everyone, yup back to work today for the first day of Cheltenham races. Was super busy as well. We should receive our letters this week with our bonus amounts are on. Fingers crossed its a nice amount!!
Buddie the dog has been a bit off his usual self. He visited the doggy doctor yesterday, but he was deemed OK. Mum popped round today and he didn't want a walk or a treat. So she cooked some chicken........ He's eaten it and now seams happier. So I wonder does he not like doggy meat?? He did have orange coloured poo so maybe he's eaten something??? I swear you need eyes everywhere with him!!
Eldest dd had a check up for her spine, she gas scoliosis and has titanium rods attached. She's developed a painful hip. They are doing a full body scan asap. But they discovered one of her legs is a different length. She's our wonky donkey bless her!!!! There's always something...

Time for bed now x take care

Sheila - there's a thread here on the 5:2 diet. Basically you choose any 2 days in the week (not 2 together) and only eat 500 calories on the day (including drinks) the rest of the week you eat normally. It suits me 'cos there's no calorie counting or buying anything special. I find it easier to do on a busy day. Its also good 'cos if something crops up you just do it another day. I do think though the best diet is one you can stick with - whatever suits you!

Its been a lovely day here, even got some clothes dry on the line.

We had lamb for dinner, with mash, turnip and mushrooms, lamb was neck rack, small but verytasty.

Sheila, congratulations on the weight loss, dont seem to be able to get anywhere, need to get moving more and stay away from the sugar.

  • Lyn. So sorry to hear about Docky. Losing our furry friends is never easy. Make the decision slowly and calmly with head and heart, then live out the time you have together. You are all in my thoughts.
