monna I hope Millie manages to keep the lampshade on this time and makes a good recovery!
Tonight is DD2's 40th birthday "do" and her brother is just getting ready, at nearly ten o'clock. I suppose he felt there was no point getting there until it's got going properly0 -

Hope they haven't all peaked too early and on their way home by the time he arrives 'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -
Monna, here's to wishing Millie a speedy recovery and liberation from the cone of shame as soon as possible!
We didn't do too much damage in the blue and yellow shed--a few bits and bobs and a list of things to think about. I did stock up on candles for the winter as I think we may be more susceptible to power cuts here and they're just cozy. We looked at curtains and nets but didn't end up buying anything. I didn't like the options for hanging nets/lace curtains and will just order curtain wire from John Lewis and get nets elsewhere. Drilling three holes on either side just for a net seems excessive to me whereas there are already small holes from wires used by someone previously. Fortunately I think the curtains I made for the bedroom the replace the infamous orange ones will fit the lounge window here. The rest of the existing curtains are less objectionable so we probably won't change them.
Today is full of household meetings. Budgeting, buying a few household things online, planning for the next few weeks and setting up a new cleaning rota for this house. We're hoping to get in a short two mile walk that practically leaves from our front door this afternoon, but only if the weather improves a bit.
I think OH is making lasagne for tea and we'll make lunch from the leftover boxes and bits in the fridge. Hugs to all who need them.x0 -

Well, he got in around 3 a.m. so not too badMost of the guests are nurses so are too knackered to stay up all night unless they're on shift!
FPk Your post has just reminded me i haven't a clue what we're having for dinner tonight  but there's some minced beef in the freezer so maybe spag bol.0 -
FPk I hate nets with a passion but our bedrooms are on the ground floor and anybody actually in the garden -like the postman or my neighbour coming to my door at the front, I'm not so worried by the sheep and coos round the back - can see right in.
I found a wee local man who makes blinds to order. I got 2 fabulous blinds that look exactly like coarse woven cream linen, but are wipe-clean and thermal. They cost a fair bit but then I have big wide windows, and are so much nicer than the nets I had before.0 -
Mar, I'm not such a fan of nets myself but we've a similar situation with our front window which also has lovely views so I think something relatively sheer will be nice. If it were our home or we were planing to stay more than 1-2 years I'd probably invest more. The nets are a compromise as I feel shut in if the curtains are shut before dusk but OH hates having people walk past and thinking they can see in (I could care less, we don't walk around in the nude or anything particularly objectionable!) I've seen some voiles online that don't look quite as bad. Mind it will only be for the front bay window!0

FPK - I use cotton muslin in the bedrooms instead of nylon net. It isn't shiny, and is easy to wash. It also keeps the rooms cool in the summer. As I have curtain poles I wind the wire around the brackets so no holes are needed. Where I have blinds I use hooks and eyes in the window frame.0

Greenbee that might be an idea solution for now. I can even run those up on the sewing machine if I can't find them ready made.
We've just come back from our walk and wow! It suddenly makes all of the hard work of the move worth it! Now, just to keep saving for the next year or two and hopefully have a home of our own around here. Well, there is also that small thing of surviving the winter. I'm sure it will be fine. As soon as I finish the unpacking I'll hop onto the prepping for winter thread and see if I can get a few new tips. We'll also have to prep the car, which we've never done before. I don't fancy knowing OH is out there without supplies.

If you buy muslin by the metre then you can make them the right size - and possibly cheaper. I have plain white, spotted white and cream. At some point I need to get my sewing machine up and running and make a few more - the hot weather has made me realise how important they are (like you I work from home, so don't want to be inside with the curtains closed during the day, but the muslins help).
From the point of view of winter, layers on windows help. My last house had single-glazed metal windows, so I had blinds (very simple ones with dowels top and bottom, fixed using cup hooks, and rolled up and tied), muslin and then curtains with thermal interlining. It's easy enough to take ready-made curtains apart to do this, but if you're making your own even better.
In the kitchen I used slatted metal blinds behind the curtains.
I also had curtains over the doors (still do for the front door here - and it is SO draughty I have run curtain wire through the curtain rings so that I can hang a layer of fleece behind the interlined curtain!) and draught excluders.
I'm sure you'll get everything nice and cosy soon!0 -
