If you think it's hard looking for a job when youre unemployed, try job searching when you're physically and mentally disabled searching for jobs in a field you have absolutely no experience in.
However, I have two interviews this week, one tomorrow and one Friday. Both applications were made last night.
I'm not on JSA and not required to job search but I want a job. The barriers are only there if you want them to be...

    Being unemployed is a barrier

    Good luck with the interviews.

    Thank you.
I am unemployed, Charlotte. I also have multiple disabilities which put me at even more of a disadvantage because despite the equality laws it seems that a lot of employers dont want disabled people. But theyre only barriers if you let them be. I haven't let the blatant rejections because I'm disabled get to me.

But at least they are protected but unemployment isn't and it should be full stop if you ask me.

If you meet the criteria you should be considered with everyone else but it is legal to say "sorry no unemployed" even in an advert

let us know how it goes

    I will yes.
I have seen that- technically I'm a student so I got round being unemployed by quite truthfully saying I'm studying. Unfortunately the implication is for a lot of employers than if you're disabled you'll have a lot of sick leave- and naturally they will never say that's the reason. I'm thinking of roping in an able bodied friend to enquire about jobs with identical experience and see how far I get! I know that its supposedly easier to get a job if you already have one but its getting one that's the problem.

  • that would be foolish. to just do as you think is right and not worry about ensuring you are doing what is required of you. i would love to just focus on quality of jobsearch and not worry about what the jobcentre thinks. to ignore what they want and put yourself at risk of a sanction is a silly thing to do.

Yeah and actually getting a job would take you out of the situation completely! How about that?

They are not looking for a job though are they? They aren't acting so carefree
they recieve a wage and dont do anything to earn it during the weekend. a jobseeker gets paid benefit and may not do anything to earn it on a weekend. neither should feel guilty.

I am just surprised you have the money and feel "not guilty" for being out all day.

If I go to sign on and then go to the shops on the way home including time to get ready and get there etc I have missed 3 hours job searching and to me I feel guilty that I may have missed something.

does an employee feel guilty for having the whole weekend off? no. you shouldnt feel guilty for doing what you say either.

But you are not talking about going out at the weekend were you?

A job seeker who is not job seeking EVERY WEEK DAY (mon to fri) should feel very guilty!
