Just a quick question on job seekers and basically you have to do a least 35 hours job searching a week, are you supposed to job search at the weekends to or is it just a mon-frid search.

I have been told they can not monitor you now to see if you are doing 35 hours but I was told 35 hours last year but had always been looking non stop. I include all weekends and BH's as a job search day. All days are the same to me.
You have to prove you have searched and made an effort to apply to as many jobs as possible.0 -
I never bother looking over the weekends due to 99% of the posted vacancies being those from Friday re-posted by the likes of Monster, Adzuna etc. In fact, my advisor told me that he sees no point in asking people to include weekends and BHs in their 35 hours for that very reason.
As for job-hunting for 35 hours a week. So long as you log in to UJM once per day and post "General search for all new jobs within x miles of Town." and "Carried-out general search for all today's jobs on Reed, Monster, CVLibrary & Indeed." (you can record a macro to do all that for you if you so wish), then the rest is easy.
They will ask you to contact x number of companies on spec each week, but never check to see if you did or not, so you can add random employer enquiries to your UJM without worry.
Same goes for having to contact Agencies.Never Knowingly Understood.

if they find out you have the net at home they will take liberties and require you to jobsearch everyday of the year, otherwise no you dont have to 7 days a week. i keep hearing about 35 hours being required but that hasnt ever been specified to me yet. people have suggested to me to tell them i no longer have the net. it is tempting but i am holding that back until i feel the time is right. that could be if they ever start to get really unreasonable.
ps dont allow access to your ujm account.0 -

How odd. Doesn't "search" include actually working on applications, not just finding an advertisement to which you can respond? I'd include all hours that I worked on finding a job and preparing covering letters and tweaking my CV for specific jobs/employers would be part of that and might well be at the weekend or a bank holiday.0 -
The 35 hours per week rule only applies to Universal credit claimants, not Job seekers allowance claimants.
If you are claiming UC then it does cover weekends as UC is paid at a daily rate over 7 days.0 -

I was told 35 hours in July 2013 and now they say they can't make or check you are doing 35 hours and this is my office not on UC.0 -
Advisors trying it on with you then as it ONLY applies to Universal Credit claimants.
Ask them to show you where you signed up to the 35 hour ruling, they won't be able to!!!0 -

JSA is also a 7 day benefit......so yes they can ask you to look for work for 7 days a week if they want to as you are getting paid for a 7 day period0 -

I told them I had internet access at home, and I was not required to search every day.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

I signed a JSA agreement in July 2013 which was then replaced in i think October last year with the new one.0
