Today was carrot and lentil soup (LO from yesterday) so #8 for me. Not sure what I will have tomorrow. I am off work but DH is going to hospital to get results of his biopsy and I am going along with him for moral support His appointment is near lunchtime so just going to wing it I think :(

    Seventh Anniversary
Day 6 today, just a simple cheese sandwich. :)
  • Right-o all!

Off to a conference today where the lunch is provided so still on track with my days!

Left my soup at work and thought it would have turned, but the back of the fridge is so cold it was ok to reheat yesterday - winner! :D

Think that takes me to 5/14

Made a ton of chickpea and squash curry at the wknd - now blitzed into a soup for the week - huzzah!

As to diet - I've been everything under the sun; pescetarian, vegetarian and vegan. My personal philosophy is I want to eat meat that has been bred, fed and treated well. I completely understand people who feel any animal born to be eaten is automatically not being treated well. I think if you're a meat-eater you owe it to yourself and the industry to respect what you eat and make as informed choices as you can. Even if it's for purely selfish reasons such as taste! Higher quality produce that hasn't been pumped full of goodness-knows-what and crammed into a cage to grow always tastes better (and tends to be more economical as you need less to fill you up). I totally realise there are plenty of people who won't agree with me though.

The greatest challenge I found to eating out as a vegan was the absolute lack of progression there's been in the vegetarian culinary market. I too thought I could scour the veggie menu options to then veganise them - only to find your veggie options are always mushroom risotto and something cheese based. It made me more sympathetic to veggies as vegetarianism is in no way a new thing and the faddy restaurant world is still under-catering for them(/us). There are, of course, pockets of scrumptiousness dotted around and they're well worth seeking out!

Good Luck to all those trying new diets! It's always fun to develop your relationship with food - in the past year I've gained 2 gf family members and 1 with a nut allergy so my recipe repertoire only ever grows!

    L. xx

Special hugs to Scotmumof3 hope the hospital visit goes ok and sending best wishes to you and the hubby.

Does seem like a lot of posters are vegan/veggies on this thread. Am assuming bringing in lunch makes it a lot easier?

I don't know if it makes it easier.Oh,I see what you mean, there being less choice for vegetarians?Yes,bringing in your own lunch does help.

Hi. I started taking my own lunch last week. I'm saving a small fortune as I used to spend on average £5 per day. Can I join please? I have a total of 21 working days in March. Up to now I have taken lunch every day so would like to aim for the full 21 :)

Wow,you're going to make huge savings. :money:

5/17 today - also had lunch at home both days of the weekend too (but I'm only counting work days here...)

I've ben considering going veggie/vegan for a while but can't quite take the plunge. I'm a meat eater but most of my home-cooked food is meat-free so I am getting there. Hypocritical of me since I find the meat industry horrific but can somehow forget about it when I'm eating meat :(

Does it save a lot of money? My biggest expense in groceries is probably cheese with meat a close second...

I don't know how often you eat meat, but why not let yourself eat it once/twice a week, whatever you want, but not let yourself go over that,so that you don't feel that it's out of control.

Choose organic meats. At least the animal has had a better life presumably and has suffered less. The quality of the meat will be much better, and ultimately, better for you.

I think that giving up meat can save you a lot of money. It depends what you choose to eat in its place. You should probably try to avoid eating too much cheese,as it's so full of fat.

Something that a lot of people forget is that there is no need to eat meat everyday. It's become the norm, but 40,50,60 years ago, eating meat was certainly not a daily event.People couldn't afford it,for a start.
The quality of the meat was probably much superior to what it is now.
And look what has happened since.Mistreated animals living a short life, pumped full of goodness knows what drugs.Amongst other things quality has gone out the window. Is that really the kind of thing that you want to be eating?
Some people expect and do eat various cold or cooked meats for lunch and supper, which IMHO is just crazy.Eating meat twice a day.... why?

    Or,take the plunge... :)

I haven't eaten meat for 35 years now.Their were meats that I still liked the taste of,but it wasn't really that traumatic not to eat them anymore.

    Anyway,enough from me.

    scotsmum great news.
