It's only proof that I bought such an item in the past, not the one I'm holding in my hands right now. What stops me from taking an old receipt to Lidl or Aldi, take the same item from the shelf and go to the till and ask for a refund? Thats the reason why supermarkets like Sainsbury's or ASDA have the customer desk right on the entrance and not at the back of the store.
I'm not saying that it will happen, but there is a possibility. I'd rather avoid such situations and don't take back previously bought items into the store bofore speaking to someone.0 -

How smug!
The OP didn't say how much the bill was - could have been £60 or more so it might not have been immediately obvious. And they said they were in a hurry.
For goodness' sake.
Had email of their Customer Services on Monday saying:
Dear Lidl Customer

If that happened to me I'd remove the product from the counter, tell the cashier to ignore you unless you queue and hand my products to the cashier to scan if you were in the way at all.
It's not your decision.
If the staff choose to deal with a customer who has been served incorrectly BEFORE you, then that is their choice. You have no say at all in the matter.
I don't know why you have taken such an aggressive stance, but maybe you should think about the other person, who has already queued once?
Your route could see you being arrested by the way. You should probably calm down.0 -

I agree.
What's more, if the scenario above did happen, Money-Saving-King would be one of the first telling you that you shouldn't have taken the item back into the store, and it's your own fault.0 -

No as the receipt the op had would prove otherwise. I have dealt with many shoplifters who steal an item then try and take it back a day or two later for a refund. With this it makes no matter which entrance you go through so the theory you and the op have on that one is flawed.0 -

Are you able to read, and more importantly to understand? We're turning in circles now...

Money-Saving-King, if he catches you!
I wouldn't be surprised if people do that....When I worked for Tesco, there was a scam where people were buying bogof items then returning both of them for refunds. At that time, they didn't demand receipts.0
