Just found a letter off partner from when I'd moved out with speeding letter from mid last year on the private plate when I bought the van, together with last weeks speeding letter from December with the new plate details... They both had my name and address stating I'm the apparent registered keeper, yet I've had vehicle tested this morning and tried to tax yet been declined, rang dvla and the guy said its not registered in my name yet police saying it is? I need to use the van and need it taxing but can't as the new owner slip is in previous reg, it's doing my head in and so stressful... Am I even liable for tickets as the guy who I bought it off hadn't sent the slip off and have this mess with private reg issue? It's such a mess, I admit I probably haven't helped situation by leaving stuff but just need it sorting if any experts?
You need to check the status of your licence.0 -
Thanks, just have, 0 penalty points0

Yes, you are liable for tickets from the day you got the van. Who else would be?
NIPs sent through could well have gone to the previous keeper first, who sent them back with "not me", and gave your details.0 -
This is not all about trying to get out of tickets as I was driving (although naturally not paying and not receiving points would be welcome ) but is about me owning the thing to tax and not have the mess on I'm having with the different plates and the whole confusion... Went to tax online and thru phone but not having the logbook or reminder I couldn't so went to post office and that was rejected also0

Is it right I should be filling out a v62 (I think) and a v10? Just need it sorting in the quickest way possible and need van taxed so I can work0

Is there any way I can tax it now and then deal with everything else???0

If it's not registered in your name, and you don't have a recentish V5C/2 from the vendor, then - no - you need to go down the V62 route.

You should SORN it, by sending a V890 in with the V62,

But, realistially, given how long it's been unlicenced so far, I'm not sure how much difference it'd make. If you do SORN it, you need to keep it off the road. But, since you now know it's not taxed, you should be doing that anyway. At least if you SORN it, you can say "Well, as soon as I was made aware..."0 -
I finally got through to dvla today who told me the only thing I could do is send in the v62 along with the v10, tax payment, the section 10 new keeper supplement from when I first acquired vehicle, current MOT and a covering note with a brief explanation of the messed up situation... Only thing now is the new keeper details were filled out a year and half ago by my father when he bought it on my behalf and the address on it is his where I stayed briefly at the time with my name on it but the old registration... Will it matter that I don't want that address on if I mention it in covering letter as it was filled out ages ago? Just don't want to send it off and mess about having it sent back and forth but theres not much I can do apart from tip-ex the old address out but won't matter anyway if the reg is wrong surely? Grrrrr0
