Don't think vehicle registered in my name

Hi all...
My father purchased a vehicle on my behalf about 2 years ago, with me knowing nothing about the workings of a motor or purchasing privately and just general stuff that he's hsd experience with before... He gave me the paperwork and I put it away thinking nothing of it and moved house and can't find where anything is... Now Im not even sure if the vehicle is actually in my name, haven't received any tax reminders and I was sure I've been caught speeding on cameras at least twice but haven't received anything... Starting to panic a bit now as don't want to gain points to lose my licence as need it for self employed work but need it sorting out, any help and ideas grateful... Thanks x

My advice is to call the DVLA for advice on this, as it'll look a lot better for you if it's sorted out before anything else happens/you're stopped driving without a license.💙💛 💔0

Who has been taxing the car?0

The seller will have been getting the reminders and hopefully will have told DVLA that the vehicle was sold and on what date to whom.
Of course they should have filled in the slip from the V5c at the time of sale which will mean your father will be getting the mail.
If not they are pretty silly as DVLA will hold them liable.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0 -
It's unlikely but you could have been disqualified from driving by now.0

Is your insurance policy in your name, or someone elses?
If in your name be cautious as they often ask if the person taking out the policy is the same as the registered keeper.
I know a few people who said it was the same, had an accident, found out they weren't the registered keeper and were unable to claim for thier own repairs. All your base are belong to us.0 -
First things first - is the car taxed? https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/
If it is, then somebody's been buying the tax for it. You can't do that without a V5C ("logbook") or a renewal letter.
If it isn't, then you need to sort it QUICKLY. Get on to DVLA today.

This is important paperwork. You're self-employed, so you must be reasonably well organised in this stuff?0 -
Yeah I know it's important and usually am on top of stuff but with being busy at work sometimes it's hard, the vehicle is taxed although due soon, Ive taxed it previously but can't find the logbook, ive just been paranoid about not getting reminders and the possible speed camera stuff I guess... It had a private plate on when I got it but when I tried to sort something for it before the private plate wasn't registered to the van anymore which I was confused as I didn't realise there was anything to sort like a retainer to keep plate? Think I drove thru a speed camera with old private plate and when realised it wasn't registered reverted back to originals with which it is registered with now, that's where a lot of the confusion has arisen, the plates... Am I right in thinking that because the vehicle wasn't registered with private plate anymore that I won't get done for that one? thanks for help so far, I'm gonna contact dvla to sort0

Did you transfer the plates through DVLA, or just transfer the physical plates on the car?
The private plate on my car is only dealt with when I change the car (usually every 2-3 years) with only the 'standard' formalities dealt with between. There is no annual fee to keep the plate on the car if it's staying on the same vehicle.💙💛 💔0 -
Just changed plates on vehicle as when if contacted dvla about something they'd said that the private plate wasn't registered with my vehicle0
