And that, in a nutshell is the point of a frequent flyer programme!

Ryanair. Remember to add bags! Also book a flight arriving in PLENTY of time to make your connecting flight out of Dublin. Ideally the night before and book a hotel.

Is the Iberia flight home a BA operated flight under a codeshare? Or is it actually Iberia via Madrid? If its the latter, with outbound via DUB and inbound via MAD I'd be loosing the will for what is a 7 hour direct flight!

Hi yes it's the Iberia via Madrid it's the only option that is available on the BA website at the moment when i check available options :( might that change if I wait ;) as not going till Feb next year:j

One of the main pieces of advice I can think of is don't book the flights as soon as they are available as that almost certainly WON'T be the cheapest price.

I thought BA released their cheapest flight straight away? :o how long after first availability do they usually release their lowest fares then?;) cheers everyone advice is great as usual :T

Whenever we fly to the USA it is usually on the first day of the school holidays. I always book straight away as soon as the flights are released. I've only ever seen the prices rise after that

Fly both regular, ( once a month) to NYC, Virgin just edged it for me more so with PE, see no point in doing NYC in business as day time flight going west and short flying time coming back. On both I eat breakfast and take a sandwich to eat in flight as find both airlines food offerings pretty lame.

Oh and fly into Newark and out of JFK.

I used to do Boston once a month and found Premium Econ was good enough for such a short flight. There isn't long enough on board to fully enjoy the pleasures of Business/Club.

Once you get high enough status you will find that you get free upgrades and points redemptions to move up a class can be reasonable too.

Save the flat bed for those 10-12 hour flights. I enjoyed my Club flight to Hong Kong so much I didn't want to get off the plane at the other end.
  • If you want to potentially save big bucks, consider the Main Cabin Extra option from American Airlines.

You're not really getting an exact comparison, but if you're flying PE primarily for extra room, you may be VERY surprised how much MCE is, compared to PE.

I've flown business class with both and honestly? Pretty much the same, in my experience.

    Really?

UC has always been far superior to CW in my experience. If nothing else all the times I have gone CW the layout of the cabin means that the lay flat seats by the window/ right in the middle are blocked in by the lay flat seats in the aisles. May be a minor thing but if your at the window is ackward having to wake a stranger up to go to the loo or annoying to be woken up as you're trying to sleep.

UC on the other hand has been closer to BA First where the seats are herringboned so no one blocks anyone in.

Similarly if you compare LHR lounges then CW is ok, food is ok and self serve bar. UC has drive through check in which is great, includes a spa treatment if you want, food is certainly a lot better and includes a serviced bar with table service.

Generally, in my experience, VS is almost 1/2 a class up from the equiv BA but of course it lacks a First Class equiv

That's right, you really can't compare BA's CW and Virgin's UC as they are different products and I certainly wouldn't say that they were "pretty much the same". Upper Class is really "Business Plus" and pitched between Business and First.

Thanks for all the advice I would never of thought of Dublin but the savings are into the 1000's seems mad for us to fly to Dublin to then fly back to LHR but if it works cheaper :) we going to book WT+ from Dublin my dates should be available in 8 days time so i will keep watching as don't want to miss the cheapest fares:) will sort out how we will get to Dublin later on. thanks again everyone you have saved me a fortune.
