If I was flying to Oz, the Far East or the west coast of the US I would tend to agree but since New York is only a 7 hour flight I'm not sure it would be worth the extra time and hassle in going via DUB. 7 hours in World Traveller Plus is bearable. 12 hours is more of a challenge.

Unless of course you are chasing Executive Club status with BA where flying Club via DUB (hey that rhymes!) is a great way of earning extra Tier Points.
The flights get us within a whisker (40 Pts) of silver and the Avios add up to 5 return flights to Europe. Mind you, we're heading further west.

Trying to work out a sensible way of getting 20 tier points before that trip to trigger bronze halfway through! Not sure that's cost effective in it's own right though - only an extra 2,000 Avios each.

I'd still think business class is worth a bit of effort over PE if the price is close. Especially if the return flight is overnight.

Avios is the name of BA air miles.

9,000 Avios plus £35 (might be less cash) pays for a return flight from London to Dublin.

Just be careful... once you make Silver you will spent the rest of the year planning your travel around maintaining the status. A couple of years ago I did a day trip to Jersey just to keep my precious Silver card (Jersey is a favourite for TP-runs as it is kind of a domestic flight - no passports needed - but you get European zone points)

    It's like crack cocaine.

I'm trying to wangle flights instead of train travel via work but unlikely to achieve them.

But before I spend my own money I really do need Mrs PW to commit to another long haul holiday next year. Struggling, as she rarely think a week ahead!

And that, in a nutshell is the point of a frequent flyer programme!

Ryanair. Remember to add bags! Also book a flight arriving in PLENTY of time to make your connecting flight out of Dublin. Ideally the night before and book a hotel.

Is the Iberia flight home a BA operated flight under a codeshare? Or is it actually Iberia via Madrid? If its the latter, with outbound via DUB and inbound via MAD I'd be loosing the will for what is a 7 hour direct flight!

Fly both regular, ( once a month) to NYC, Virgin just edged it for me more so with PE, see no point in doing NYC in business as day time flight going west and short flying time coming back. On both I eat breakfast and take a sandwich to eat in flight as find both airlines food offerings pretty lame.

Oh and fly into Newark and out of JFK.

One of the main pieces of advice I can think of is don't book the flights as soon as they are available as that almost certainly WON'T be the cheapest price.
