The first item in that list you have shown us is entitled:
    Unbranded WD AV 2.5 160GB 16 MB SATA 3 GB/S 5400RPM - WD1600BUCT

Rather a confusing description, wouldn't you say?
Is it really an unbranded Western Digital drive? How is that even possible?

it means their will be no reference on the HDD and if you compare with a branded WD drive you will sees a big difference in price

And presumably a big difference in manufacturer warranty.

Simply advertising the thing as a WD drive makes it a branded drive.

As this is a very expensive piece of quality equipment, I believe that this fault should not have occured just two months after the 1 year warranty ran out. I believe that PC World should repair my laptop free of charge in accordance with the ‘Consumer Protection Sales of Goods Act 1979′. Quote :
The quality of the goods applies to their state and condition including their appearance and finish, freedom from minor defects, and safety and durability. They should also be fit for all purposes for which goods of that kind are commonly supplied. Your rights under this Act are against the person who sold you the goods and not the manufacturer.
I have not misused it I work in website support and I know how to manage the battery and laptop. There is no way I could make the hard drive fail for the usage I was using it for.

So like PC World you're saying a £500 piece of kit should last 1 year 2 months?

You can believe what you like the law disagrees with you. Before you run around quoting such laws it's probably best you actually get an understanding of what your talking about because at the moment PC World clearly know their rights better than you do.

The steps have been perfectly well explained by others in this thread but essentially you need an independent report. Whos to say you didn't damage it? Thats what the report is for.

If you take them to court without this you'll be wasting your money as they'll win and you won't recover the fees. Feel free to take the risk though.
  • I would imagine they're being sold as OEM - They'll essentially be the same as their retail counterparts in every respect (including labelling and branding) just no retail box or manufacturer warranty.

No they dont have any branding, i have sold many, they are just plain labels with HDD specs and they just come in an antistatic bag.

I don't understand why anyone would buy such a thing.

You have told us "you will sees a big difference in price", but that same drive, presumably with real labels, and a three year warranty, is available at lower prices elsewhere.
    Here are just two places:
    Una Technology

    Ballicom International

    yes as you stated BRANDED
  • one of the reasons retailers say unbranded , is that they can then sell whatever h/disk is the cheapest from the wholesaler that week , and then be proud saying we have "upgraded you" to a "x" brand at no extra cost.

however this might not be the case in the situation collabora states , maybe they just peel off the labels , maybe they are returns/recons or older dated stock , who knows
