I'm not in a panic to transfer my allowance to my husband, as everything will have caught up by next April, provided that the allowance is transferred before then.

Something did occur to me this morning:

Suppose one spouse transferred allowance to the other, but the receiver died before earning enough to cover just their own allowance. Would the donor be able to claim the allowance back, as they may need if inheriting some of the deceased person's pension ?

If the answer is a negative, then transferring near the end of a tax year would be a safer bet, as most of the allowance would have been used.

Registered on Feb 20th and received an email on March 30th stating that I would be one of the first to be able to claim the allowance but still nothing!

Had Email to verify could not do it so telephoned on number being given by HMRC within verify which is 0300 200 3300 gave the man our NI numbers and names job done, they will now contact employer with new tax code in the next few weeks and it will be back dated to April 6th. I was amazed how easy it was.

I have sent in the form to apply but have not received a reply. When I spoke to the dept involved they do not know if any forms have been received but they will send an invitation to apply within 14 weeks. If I don't have an invitation within that period I have to re apply again. This could go on ad infinitum as they will not be able to tell me if they have received my original form. Sounds crazy to me

  • Hi I noticed that you have managed to claim this by Telephone. We tried to use the online verification service but it asked for a photo card driving licence and we only have the old type!
It sounded easier to Telephone. what info do they need?

Thanks for any help Colin & Anne
