How is a "Non-Speaker" supposed to deal with this ?
Before anyone asks me - no I do not have a working Text Phone and even if I did - there are supposedly problems with HMRC answering ...
The "verify" service is only in BETA - so I don't trust it ..
That leaves letters, which I have used in the past for communicating with HMRC and ended up costing me over £1700 through overpayment of WTC - despite my writing to them (by registered post) - they claimed not to have received any letters from me..... !!0 -
I phoned 0300 200 33000

I contacted HMRC on Monday, asking why, having registered my interest on Feb 20th, I had not received an invitation to transfer personal allowance. The lady I spoke to was very vague, saying she didn't know much about it!! She didn't think(from what she had read in the paper) that anything was going to happen until October!
What a waste of time and very frustrating!0 -
I phoned them last night about 16.30 and got straight through after answering a few questions via an answer machine. They just had both of our National Insurance numbers and asked a few security questions, I was then told it was done and we would get new tax codes in the post.0

Hi Millie, did you receive an invitation to apply before proceeding or did you ring HMRC on the offchance of them sorting it out for you over the phone?
Thanks, bigk0 -
I've just done it online with Experian.
You need both of your national insurance numbers. Also either your passport or driving license details.
They asked me a couple of questions about my bank account and a credit card - I had to dig out my March statements so I could confirm the balance on the card at the end of March.
Then they sent a code to my mobile phone, it was all straightforward0 -
Applied online as soon as it was announced. Finally got email invite yesterday. Sorted out ID via Post Office site (10 mins) and received instant approval from HMRC. New code will be in post.0

1. Thank you for registering your interest.
2. An update to marriage allowance.
3. Your HMRC marriage allowance link. <<<<<
The third mail contains a personal link to apply. If you have not had the third e-mail then you can not apply on line although you may be able to bluff your way through by phone.Onawingandaprayer wrote: »The email from HMRC gives you the option to use Post Office, Experian or, I think, one other. The link is provided in their email.0
