My Daughter has been buying these lenses for the past 6 months now as they are a lot cheaper than the Clarity lenses our family optician gave her.
Im going to quote here from what the Eye Doctor at the Hospital said to me " her corneal epathiliam cells are all but worn away" they have told her she cannot wear lenses for 3 months and she is now having to use steroids to reduce the swelling and another drop for the pain. They say that this is all to do with the lens not fitting correctly
Apparently Daysoft swopping her to to a different type of inferior lens to the one our optician gave her is not allowed. Its not even the same size! We will be taking this up with the governing organisation.
But could the condition have been caused after such a short time frame i.e 6 months? One has to be careful with any brand of CL and a healthy regime would be to limit length of daily wear and alternate with some trendy specs either for full days or for periods in excess of maybe 8 hours or so.
I have worn DS for maybe 6 years or more and had no trouble with them. I pay my practitioner annually for an eye test and CL /eye health check ( boots-local branch, excellent). I found that from a user point of view, they performed as well as any other no si hydrogel lens.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). I'm learning about multi focal contact lenses, definitely a question for a qualified optometrist in practice and not something that can be advised online. There are problems with adaption that can cause people to lose balance, stop them meeting driving standards and all sorts of other complications.
Indeed..i was thinking of having a trial. Its not a big issue at present as im using daily CLs plus ready readers.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Hi there,
My daughter (14 years old) had an assessment for contact lenses with Tesco. They have recommended Acuvue Moist dailies at around £36 per month. However this is very costly and more than we can afford. I had originally hoped she could wear monthly contact lenses but they advised against this for young people due to risk of infection etc. Would be grateful if anyone could advise:
- Are monthlies unsuitable for young people?
- If so, is there an alternative daily contact lens which is as good as Acuvue moist but cheaper?
I am concerned the optician was more of a sales person than anything else.
My daughter plans to wear the lenses 5 days per week for 6-7 hours per day (basically at school).
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks0 -
Hi I've been wearing daily disposable lens (Dailies) for several years now as monthly lens were damaging my eyes. Until recently I paid £18.99 a month, this has just increased to £27 - reading between the lines of what the lady in the opticians said I think I'd been somehow 'missed' and the price should have increased ages ago! Forgot to say it's a small independant opticians.
Just wondering how this £27 compares to what other people are paying, either at a chain like Vision Express or online. I looked online, but notice it is more expensive if your eyes are 2 different prescriptions, as mine are : -6.5 and -7.0 -
katelj-you are right to be concerned with regard to infections with re-useable infections. Experts on here are much better informed than I but some of the infections can be extremely serious and difficult to deal with. It all hinges on good care regimes and healthy use of the CLs. IMHO Dailies are clearly best from a hygiene point of view. There are less expensive dailies on the market. Acuvues do seem to be popular though....

I am currently with Vision Express and pay £35 a month and every 3 months they (often fail to*) send me 2.5 months supply of daily acuvue moist lenses. These lenses are most comfortable to me as I have had problems with other cheaper brands drying out and hurting my eyes. I went through a months worth of cheaper brands in about 2 weeks after having to take them out and put new pairs in so much, so made the switch to save myself having to buy boxes in between deliveries.
I get the annual, in depth, aftercare appointment at a branch every year which does enable a good look at my eyes which is re-assuring. I also get free trials of other brands of lens if I have any problems with my current selection as well as £80 off frames once a year.
It is a good package, I think, but I am trying to cut back a little and am looking to switching my provider of lenses.
Can anyone recommend another supplier which offers good aftercare, like I get from VE. I'm not too fussed about money off frames or free trials of other brands as I have been using acuvue for years and feel comfortable in them. Home delivery is a must, though.
*Vision Express seem to occasionally send them to my old address totally out of the blue, even after a string of sending them to my current place and once or twice a year they will send them to my local store for no reason, even if my aftercare appointment is not yet due.0 -

Easily! 6 days can cause grief with an ill fitting lens.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

i currently use asda opticians but they do have a limited supply of lenses especially from cooper vision, as these are the only lenses i seem to get on with. Now cooper vision have brought out a lot of newer tech lenses and i want to give them a go, are high street opticians happy to just check your eyes i know they will charge but wont they be unhappy you are not buying your lenses from them.
I use currently frequency xcel toric and want to try biofinity toric.0 -
I've used Daysoft contact lenses on and off for years now and I've found them excellent. Recently Daysoft have introduced a new solution to pack their lenses in called Silk.
The new solution does feel more comfortable the instant I put the lens in, although I've found it doesn't agree with my eyes. Fortunately I've noticed they now are giving the option of choosing Silk or the previous Classic saline.
So if you are having problems with the Silk solution, you can now select the Classic saline solution instead when ordering. There's no difference in price: http://about.daysoftcontactlenses.com/silk.aspx?Site=14&c=GB&ln=10 -
