    Abbie, who are you with.

I wouldn't be paying for a trial - ditch them and go elsewhere.

a local independant who i've been happy with for my last 3 eye tests.

i'll see how i get on with the new lenses that they've ordered for me, i think?!

hmmm, well my new lenses that would 'be a couple of days', won't even be here until next week! not too impressed as i'd really like to try & find suitable lenses before we go away for new year.

there's no point me even trying to continue wearing the first lenses i was given, tried yesterday & only managed to have them in for just over an hour as my left eye was so irritated.

on a plus note, i called into Costco yesterday - they are doing a trial for £12.99, as many lenses/appointments as required & a years after care included. their solution prices are also very good & i got prices for a couple on lenses too but they were similar to asda online prices.

Costco trial here i come i think! :)
  • Abbie, don't you need to be in business to have a Costco card?

lens fitting can be like this - took me months the first time to get a lens that both I and the optician were happy with and then within 4 months I had become intolerant and we started the search ag reaain

Its not your opticians fault nor can you really expect them to keep a trial set of lenses of every possible prescription in stock so a couple of days isnt so long. I was always lucky, my few days always was about 3 days - seeing as they had to order from England I was pretty impressed

You will get there eventually. Taken me about 4 years of failed attempts so far :)
  • Last Sunday my optician said it would take 7-10 days to receive the toric lenses for me. That seems a long time.

It very much depends on the lens type and prescription - some have to be custom made to order and quite often, that is overseas.

Anyway - I love the way folks are moaning about having to pay for a service and the quality of said service. What's the point of them offering a gold standard rapid service if you just going to disappear elsewhere with your spec anyway, having given them the pleasure of doing the expensive/tricky bit? Did you know that chair time costs an average of £2 per minute?
Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

ours is a trade membership with our business but you can also join on an individual basis if you qualify, more info here

Suki - yep, trial & error i know. i'm just impatient! :o i think we're so used to stuff being available instantly/next day, when we do have to wait, it seems ages! the fact that the lens in my right eye has been so good, great vision & don't even know it's there, makes it even more frustrating i think...damn you left eye!

Nedmundo - i do understand your POV. i really wouldn't mind paying my £5 for say 3 or 4 further appointments/different lenses IF i'd been given the correct info about the trial in the first place & advised that new lenses could take over a week to be received each time.

if they lose money on this service or don't keep the majority of clients after the trial period, that's up to them as to whether they still offer the service. there's no obligation & the client has the end choice afterall. i know we have to way up cost vs service but it can't be ignored that cost drives a lot of how decisions are made.
  • So I had my toric lenses fitted today. Let's see if I notice any difference. I'm a Yorkshireman and £5 a month extra needs to be worthwhile :D
  • Must say the lenses feel strange. I've had them in for 6hrs today and the others felt better. I suppose my eyes have to get used to the toric lenses but I am wondering what difference should I expect?

Changing from normal to torics might mean a change of brands and not every brand is equal. Its taken me ages - a couple of years maybe to find a lens I can tolerate for any length of time and they are 30 day continuous wear for most people, yet Im lucky to manage 6 hours - a lot less if Im driving
