Changing from normal to torics might mean a change of brands and not every brand is equal. Its taken me ages - a couple of years maybe to find a lens I can tolerate for any length of time and they are 30 day continuous wear for most people, yet Im lucky to manage 6 hours - a lot less if Im driving

Thanks for the reply. I've worn the other lenses 12hrs or more without an issue. I had to put my glasses now and I have a headache. Not sure if the lenses caused the headache - just have to see how I go over the next few days.

Yes and Ive worn lenses for longer with no problem. Ive worn some lenses that are better for driving in then others - like I say different manufacturers can be poles apart and its up to you and your optician to work towards getting the best fit, comfort and vision - and then really can take a long while esp if you have astigmatism and are short or long-sighted on top

my 2nd pair for trial came last Thursday, B & L Soflens66 toric. i'm not getting on with them too well, vision is poorer & they are very floppy/flimsy compared to the PureVision one's i started off with, these new ones are pretty tricky to get in as they flop about & stick to your finger instead of your eye!

i had persevered with the PureVision again while i was waiting for the 2nd pair & things were improving, i'd been making an effort to drink more water every day & it seemed to be having an effect as the dryness in my left eye was hardly noticeable (mind over matter perhaps?). diasaster on saturday though, 1 of the lenses had a slight tear in it so had to go & the other one, i dropped down the sink! i've just rang up the opticians for a replacement pair & they've got to be ordered again - so probably another week gone to waste again
    :(

i've only ever had toric lenses so couldn't comment on the difference. i had thought about trying out some daily lenses, perhaps after xmas if these current lenses don't work out, but the price difference to monthly is frightening -
purevision monthly = £70'ish for 6 months (plus solution),
dailies = at least £170

Back to SS this Saturday. I'm resorting to my intial lenses which I have in now and no issues. I think I've had them 30 days but they've been looked after i.e. cleaned and soaked in solution. I am sure they'll be okay until the weekend.

I can drop the lenses in quickly now and don't like glasses! So, I really don't want to go backwards now but I don't want to start a long process of trying lense after lense.

I didnt "mess about" I kept trying lenses until I found what suited me best and SS were more then happy to keep supplying trial lenses at no cost

And if I have to admit defeat on these Im settled on now and wait till technology advances a bit more then I will do so

My vision is important to me and I will not compromise it. The lenses I wear now give me pretty good all round vision(not as crisp as my glasses ) and are legal to drive in,but even though they are licensed for 30 day continuous wear, I find they dry so wear them for no more then 6 hours
  • Sorry suki I meant no disrespect in my last post and have altered it accordingly :)

I've had my initial lenses in all day and no issues. Looks like I'll be sticking with these :)

    Merry Christmas
    :)
  • glad to hear you might be close to getting sorted rwalton :)

well i took the plunge & decided to get booked in at Costco for their trial/fitting at an all inc. cost of £12.99. went late on Monday, checked my eyes & all ok, discussed the best options for how i want to use them & he ordered B&L PureVision & Biofinity lenses for me to try. had a call earlier to say the lenses have arrived & i've got an appointment tomorrow for him to see me putting them in/taking out etc.

very pleased with the Costco service & the lenses coming so quick is a real bonus. quite a few things were mentioned & the advice seemed a lot more comprehensive too (he went into more detail about the negatives of continuous wear & also not to wear when i was swimming, which hadn't been mentioned at the opticians even though i said i went to the gym/swimming regularly).

let the new trial commence, onward & upwards! :)
  • Hi, wondering if anyone can help me.

I had a sight test at boots £20

I'm now in a trial for contacts £35

Where do I stand now? I've got my first review on Saturday. I'm short-sighted although these contacts work in that respect they don't seem to work when I'm looking at PC monitor etc. Also have trouble focusing when I quickly glance at something.

So where do I go from here? I plan to buy on-line once I find out which lenses fit best. How do I find out my prescription? Have I been silly paying out £55 so far?

    Thanks
  • So after a visit to SS today I've signed up. I'll be paying £13 a mth and have 3 pairs of lenses and 3 large bottles of solution, so I'll be okay for a while. :)

    How are the lenses Abbie?
  • i've only tried the biofinity for a couple of days, the prescription definitely needs tweeking as vision is still quite blurred, comfort is good while i'm wearing them but when i remove them my eyes sting a little & are left very bloodshot & sore for a while. i'm not having to fiddle about getting them out, it just seems that the act of moving them is causing some irritation.

i'll give the purevision a go again next week.

good to hear that you're sorted, i think i have a while to go yet! :)

Mark - i don't think you've been silly to pay out £55 if the care & advice up to now has been good. you should get a lens prescription when they (& you) are satisfied that they have the best lenses vision & comfort wise sorted for you. hope you got on ok yesterday.
