If any of you use Hydrogen Peroxide cleaners then postoptics have an offer on at the moment, buy 12 months for the price of 9 = £71 ish, this is for AMO 1 step (although it is a 2 step procedure with the neutralising tablet). This stuff usually retails at around £9-£10 for 1 month supply.

I just topped up after last years offer supply was about to run out.

Dont know why i didnt spot this before as I'm a bit of a Daysoft evangelist.

I have,in my optical lifetime,worn NHS specs,jam jar bottoms,rigid gas permeables,J&J Acuvues dailies and a few years ago switched to ordering Daysoft on line.

I must admit i was sceptical at first. How could a daily lens be produced so economically when Acuvue are so expensive. Must be rubbish.

Anyway I've been using them for quite a few years now and i can confidentally state that for me at least,they are perfect and as good as J&J Acuvue.

They are a hidden gem produced by a flourishing company which is growing and expanding.

Soon the Acuvue bubble will burst when they are forced to compete. Perhaps then lens wearers will not feel so ripped off.

So yes,daysoft 10/10

I use SOFLENS 66 TORIC monthlies which I buy from Asda online at £48 for six months supply. They're incredibly efficient and helpful - and in fact sent me a pair free because my prescription was out of date and the optician had a delay on appointments. They send them virtually immediately - I'm so impressed I've stayed with them!

Well, for for £13.98 for a months supply I am quite happy to give daysoft a go and have just ordered. If these go well I think I might switch for that price as the kids are always knocking my glasses out of shape, I only ever really wear CL when I go on holiday.

I usaully go for checkup to boots (£20-£30 checkup) and buy contact lenses online for around £130 (toric with solutions).

Now I am on Tax Credit how much help with cost I can get from nhs?

You should get a sight test every 2 years free and a voucher which you can use towards contacts or glasses. Voucher value depends on how high your prescription is. You will still have to pay for contact lens aftercare checks. Online suppliers are unlikely to accept the NHS voucher, but I may be wrong.

Typical voucher value (prescription band A - up to + or - 6.00 Sphere and up to -2.00 Cylinder) is a not too generous £36.20.

Some opticians will give you a greater discount than this if you use it towards specs rather than contacts.

I am sure this has been asked many times before but I cant find it so here goes.
I buy my daily disposables online however I need to get another eye test as my prescription is too old to use.
Are companies that offer eye check ups etc. (Specsavers etc) obligated to give you a written contact lense prescription if you have a check up - last time I went through hell to get it - I asked my online supplier to contact Specsavers to verify my details and when they called them Specsavers denied having the info. I had to go into the store and demand it in writing at huge hassle to myself

Yes they are but you may have to ask for it. Most people buy their contacts from their optician so many have not yet got into the habit of handing them out automatically. Normally you will need to have an in date sight test (within 2 years normally) as well or you will need to book and pay for both.

The only time a contact lens specification is not available is when the fitting is not completed - normally this is for first time wearers or if you change lens type. Its up to the optician when they consider the fitting to be completed - this may require a period of you wearing the lenses and reporting back. Could be a couple of weeks or a couple of months.

i think im right in saying that opticians have to give you your contact lens precription by law (after you've paid for the checkup that is :-)) in any once you've got it you should definitely shop around apparently contact lenses are 70% off cheaper on the internet, a couple of the big supermarkerts like tesco and asda sell them to. a useful little site a came across recently compares the price from a dozen or so different places its called lensfinder.co.uk you can win 6 months free contact lenses from them at the moment as well i noticed on google new.
