I'm afraid I had to cancel on the Chaplain BILLIE as I was too upset immediately after the job news to go into speaking to him - may sound a bit back to front but I didn't feel like speaking or meeting a stranger right then and there and had planned to talk to him about other matters which were at that point far from my mind. I apologised for the short notice cancellation and he was OK with it - we don't seem destined to meet! :o

    Hi Levi

I didn't post on your last thread, but I lurked, read and admired your courage in coping with everything life has thrown at your recently.

I have also become a single parent recently, albeit in different circumstances to yours, and I have been struggling with the whole 'this was not the grand plan' way of thinking, but I just wanted to say that your last diary helped me to buck my ideas up and to be a little stronger.

As my 4 year old DS would say, you're awesome! Obviously way too awesome for that job, and your friend was right - it was not right for you and was not meant to be.

Good luck with everything, I will be following your adventures (in a non-creepy way :D) and (I hope you don't mind), drawing strength from your grit and determination.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Ok I hope Im not adding fuel to the fire, but !!!!!!? A senior manager spends a year grooming you for a role and then tells you its been given to someone else? I would be fuming.
But then again its crap like that which led to me going self employed.
Not to make this all about me, but I went for a job that was ace on paper. 6 months later my boss went on maternity leave, and I swear to god noone else at that company knew what to do with me. They kept me on for a further 12 months basically doing nothing. One senior manager got me all excited about a project for his brand which would have been a lot of work for me. I had to write a presentation and go into a board meeting to deliver it. At the meeting, the director who had encouraged me basically sat in silence as the MD came back with every reason going why my project was a load of bleep. I didnt ever really get over that. I was made redundant a month or so later and cant see the two were unconnected. I still think about the shame I felt in that meeting.

So I do know that feeling, of being built up & broken down. Two words. Office Politics.
You are worth so much more than how you've been treated, and I am so sorry.

MeandO- thanks so much for your very kind words, MORE than happy to have you tag along - amazing to hear I've been inspirational to you in any small way, that makes me feel great! :) Hopefully along the way we can exchange tips on new-found single parenthood I'm sure - they are the same age too so I'm sure we are going through many of the same fun things... ;)

Bob - Thanks for sharing that experience with me, totally identifiable and sorry you went through that monkey-business, must have been absolutely gutting. Nothing quite like being kicked down is there? Makes you wonder what it's all about. You made a wise choice to go self-employed and I'm sure you have ended up much happier. I am (unfortunately) rather a somewhat naive and trusting and heart-on-sleeve character which doesn't lend me well to the kinds of games that people can play. I always end up shocked and bemused (and usually hurt) at something happening that jolts me in to the reality of how people are and what they are capable of toward each other.

  • Hello Levi

I'm another lurker of the old thread. So many of us huh?

You are doing a brilliant job. Keep going. You are inspirational.

Regarding SR, he sounds a bit of an ar#e if you ask me. How can someone with purportedly such influence not at least get you through to interview stage? Methinks perhaps he isn't as high up/influential as he likes to make out. Keep looking, you never know what's around the corner and don't let the situation get you down :)

So many lurkies :D Love that loads of you joined in now :D
You're probably right about SR - maybe I had a lucky escape from working underneath him. Wolf in sheep clothing springs to mind. A woman I am friends with actually did work underneath him and doesn't have a good word to say about him - he booted her out of the job on bad terms last year which everyone was so stunned about because she is the loveliest and most competent person you could ever imagine.

  • Hi Levi, so sorry to hear your news. :( It may be after all that this person hasn't the clout he thought he had. I feel awkward saying this as it sounds very trite when it's not me that has been going though the roller coaster of emotions over the last few months but having had similar things happen to me sometimes things happen for the best and it isn't till later that on looking back you can see why. Please don't take this decision as in any way a slight.....cannot think of the word I'm after...but this isn't about you as a person. You are still LL's wonderful Dad giving him love, guidance and experiences that are priceless. Perhaps this is all you need to be at this moment. When the time comes for moving on you and LL may be in a better place to take it on. Hope I'm making sense. I do wish you all the luck in the world and please, please don't think any less of yourself. The job you have as a parent is the most difficult in the world and you are pretty amazing at it.:)

    Hi

As a someone else said, it sounds like this person didn't have as much influence as he led you to believe! Also I think you might be right about a wolf in sheep's clothing, sounds to me like you've had a lucky escape! Also if he's not a very nice person to work with/have as a boss, if things get difficult and you're in a new position, that sort of person could make it sound like you're not working well/working as well as they'd hoped if there needs to be job cuts etc, obviously to save their own skin. Didn't describe that very well, but hope it makes some sense. Also if he thought he had that sort of authority and now doesn't - is there something going on at management level above him that he's not happy with/has any control over?

These are just my thoughts - I know it doesn't feel like it now, but it really sounds like you've had a lucky escape and something better is round the corner.

Say strong and enjoy the lovely LL.

  • Hi Levi! Found your new thread!

Don't be too down about the job...sounds like SR was spinning a bit of a yarn tbh....but you still have your current job, so you're no worse off than you were, and they seem to be pretty flexible and understanding towards LL and his childcare needs, so that's something to be thankful for. :)
Keep going as you are, you're doing great.
