Thanks for the hugs liltdiddylilt. :)

Unfortunately absolutely no support network if I'm being totally honest! Family live 300 miles away and my Mum is plagued with serious and severe life threatening illness on what seems like a weekly/daily basis. (I grew up with dealing with this as a child, so I'm pretty sure this is where my anxiety stems from).

'Good' friends are not local either and all have now recently had babies so are very busy. I have colleagues and neighbours etc., but none of them are close to being confidantes.
I should say, I'm not 'native' to where I live, and, being a small part of the world where lots of people have never left the area they were born in, people eye 'newcomers' with suspicion! I've been here 11 years, apparently I have 9 left to go until I'm officially accepted. :p

Weirdly, the ex is without a doubt the most supportive person in my life, but obviously it's now no longer his job, even though I know he'd still be there for me as I would for him, we kind of have to go it alone now.

It's tough, but I get through for the love of my life, my little man . I know I'll be fine, because I have to be. Keeping busy definitely helps though and I'm really trying to crack the organisation thing too, I've let it slide these past 12 months!

    Sorry to hijack, Levi :rotfl:

    Hi MeandO

After Levi mentioned your diary on this thread I just had a quick read of it.

I think you would benefit from a thread that is running at the moment!! It is Called "NOT BUYING IT! 2015". They are a great bunch of people on there. Some who have debt issues that they want to deal with, some single parents who are struggling financially and others who find they just spend too much and want to stop doing so.

There is so much help and support available on that thread!! Many on there have started to pay their debts/mortgages off by taking advice from others on the thread!! Lots of money saving tips on there too!!

I mentioned it to Levi some time ago but have not seen him on there yet. Have I LEVI????? :rotfl:

  • Bless Me&O - my mum is going through chemo right now for the 5th and 6th bouts of cancer since I was 9. And she is a few hundred miles away along with all of my friends and family. So I feel your anxiety.. Levi is right though; you're in the best place for a support network here.. :) have read your diaries and posted :)

He may also be right that you're a hybrid of us both. Can't be a bad thing. We are awesome. :rotfl:

Edwink why don't I get an invite to this magical not buying it kingdom hmm? Probably because you know I would fail and buy it anyway... :o:o:o

  • I'll have to have a look for the "not buying it 2015" thread - is it in the challenges or on the main DFW board, or is it a diary?

It's great that you've been applying the Dale Carnegie book Levi, not just reading it and then forgetting it which is so easy to do. I read it years and years ago....must read it again and start applying it. The thing I remember from it is where he says just to do one thing at a time, and allow the events to go through just like the way grains of sand go through an eggtimer.

If you like this kind of book, another classic is "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale. It's written in a similar style to Dale Carnegie's and has stood the test of time.

Also you might like books written by Robert Schuller and Og Mandino - all very inspirational! This is definitely reminding me to get back into reading! Thanks for sharing what you've read with us.

    Hi Humming bird

It was started by a woman called Slowdown - NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday is the title of the thread. If you type the whole of that in the thread search on the green panel on the top of the MSE page you will find the thread.

The thread was started at the end of December 2014 with a view of getting people on board in time for January 2015. The thread is treated like a ship and Slowdown now known as Captain Slowdown started it all off.

It is basically about not spending money on things we don't really need. Some on the thread are really very good and keep their purse strings closed whilst others have a bad habit of spending too much and going in to their overdraft. Then come pay day their wages are swallowed up to pay off their overdraft and it becomes a vicious circle.

We pass on news of special offers on certain products in shops etc. Help each other with tasty cheap to make meals. Homemade washing product recipes. The list is endless!! Great bunch of people on there too!!!

Hope to see you over there!! And you too LEVI!!!!
