Dustykitten wrote: »I want to declutter but I'm not sure where to start this time or if I'm really in the right frame of mind for it. I realise that I tick all those boxes which trip you up:
It might be useful (I had kept all the child proof locks for about 10 years, got rid a few months ago and now I want one to kitten proof the kitchen cupboard)
Somebody gave it to me as a gift (got a new one of these this week, an aga biscuit tin, I love my aga but don't want a biscuit tin)
It cost a lot so it has value
It has memories attached - big one boxes and boxes of 'memories' from the kids lives
Photos and Paperwork - I just don't seem to ever get to these - too hard to throw but too many to enjoy/need/file/store.
So who else has these 'issues' and have you conquered them? I actually don't want everything neatly folded and stored, I like there to be some stuff about but looking around there is stuff everywhere in some rooms and cupboards etc are stuffed full (mainly of stuff we don't use).
If in doubt, turf it out!
Now you say it......
I'm pleased to say that we had a really, really good sort out of the kitchen back in September, prior to the refit; a bunch of stuff got shipped out to the CS. And the only stuff that has come into the kitchen since then is food.:T Moving the stuff round and changing what gets kept where has paid dividends, too - I'd always just gone along with where Mr LW stored stuff, because I moved in with him, and it was just how it was. Having all new cupboards, and a different configuration, gave me the excuse to arrange it to my own preference.;)
Actually, I really ought to just lurk this week, as I honestly don't see anything getting done other than that required for hygiene; I am absolutely pooped after Button's walks, of which she has three per day. She had a great time this morning; we saw Tilly the Miniature Schnauzer, and met a new friend, Black Labrador Skye. And we discovered the location of another poo-bin, just across the way from the Roman ruins, so that's useful to know!:rotfl:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

I have dusted all through, so DH can hoover while I'm out.
I decluttered when we moved almost 2 years ago, decluttered again as we finished each room, and am still decluttering now
Off to meet the German visitor now.0 -
Just decluttering my cookery books - I very rarely use them so I'm just going to keep the few I do use. I've also got a recipe file full of recipes that I put in in 2006 and haven't looked at since!NST #10 Steps 7K 2/30 10K 2/12 5 a day 3/30 NSD 0/20

I've ran out of GUAG for the minute.
Kitchen sides wiped
Beds remade
Hand washing done
Our bed linen for tomorrow got out ready
I've now taken a pile of cookbooks out of the cupboard in the dining room which I never use to look through for inspiration or for passing on.The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Just had to go and fetch my son from the park - a 15ish year old has punched him in the face and kicked him.:mad:NST #10 Steps 7K 2/30 10K 2/12 5 a day 3/30 NSD 0/20

What is the world coming to? I pity young children these days having to grow up in such a horrible world.
Hope your son is ok now. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hugs for you and your son, JulieJim. In 2007 I carefully filed hundreds of recipes I'd collected for years, and then binned the whole lot a couple of years ago. With the exception of a Mitch Tonks recipe using smoked haddock, leeks and new potatoes I've never managed to track down, t'internet is my Go To place now when I want to cook something new and I've found some fantastic new recipes that way. (But I still can't quite ditch the rest of the books just yet.)
Tadpoles scoffed, town visited, urgent shopping done and nothing that wasn't on the list. Now to sewing: I've started work to finish projects that have been hanging around for years, the second one on today's pile - for twenty years. It will take some time to work my way through the started-projects pile but it has to be whittled down this year as it's driving me mad.Better is good enough.0 -

Oh my goodness! Is it worth reporting? Does he know who? You must all be terribly upset xxx
Thanks for the lists, but I think I'm going to be all back to front this week. I've just got in from work and washed the LR floor (by hand) so I'm going to be on LR duty today. Also will be popping out to get weighed (expecting positive result today :T) later. I'm not really bothering with tea, it's just me tonight so I'll take a mugshot with me for after weigh in
WFH tomorrow and Wednesday so I'll do kitchen tomorrow then pick up from there. Have a day of on Thursday, no paid stuff and kiddies are at playscheme so some catchup time and also a grocery shop will be needed. Then we are meeting friends for tea. Looking forward to that!Bossymoo

JullieJim I hope he is ok, that is a horrid thing to happen.
I've done well with the book cupboard, got rid of quite a few and looked through the others, again if they are not used during the next 6 months they shall be thinned again. Most have been gifts, I'm not that keen on cooking. Gardening books will not be being thinned
Going to see if I can finish my casting on next on my knitting to test the size of the needles. It is so grey here. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
