A quick google threw up this...
"Your rights when asking for child-friendly working hours
Can I ask to change my working hours?
If you need to change the hours you work because of childcare, you may have the right to request flexible working, and to have your request considered according to standard criteria.
You may also have a case of sex discrimination if your right to request flexible working is unreasonably refused.
This fact sheet explains how to request child-friendly working hours using the statutory procedure.
If your request is refused you should seek advice about whether you have a claim for compensation under the right to request flexible working and under sex discrimination law."
If you're in a union seek their advice before making any decisions.
Good Luck :-)
Thank you, will need all the luck I can get by the sounds of it.
If I apply for flexible working and they agree then I would have to sign a new contract. A new contract means new t and cs for me and then a drop in wage  I have been avoiding signing over to new t and cs so that's a dilemma I'll have to wrestle with. Hmm0 -

simple as that
Now where was my baked potato recipe book ???
I think I leant it out .... Mrs Mac ? No she way better cook . AAU no ? He bakes
David ... No he's a beef man
FC ask DS2 he might remember ?! Oh maybe poppy ate it ?
Maybe it's under Ruth's make up bag ?
Or maybe Mrs 3dogs had it ? No I remember I leant it to Lookinforabargain who was getting Jelly to translate it into Spanish for Mildreds next trip.
Then she was bringing it back from Poland and Westie was going to photograph me a new front cover.
nannylala wrote the memo in it about Laura Ashley table cloths and Zagubov picked the tunes. To which Zippy took it to the pub on Friday to sample.
So then what happened ? VT was reclining on the chaise longue reading out loud to the Sarah's and the Claire's. DaveM was fixing the log fire and Nerfy was running around the pond with the kids.
TM and TS were comparing stashes of potatoes and ingredients, there was no shortage of beans and cheese. House Elf as ever sat back quietly and digested every move.
So where's my cook book now ??? Banana asks Hobbitjones
What was the question again ?!

That sounds rather harsh My "old" company would have been a "variation" of contract but that may be your company policy I would give ACAS a phone and if you have legal protection on your house insurance they can offer employment law advice too0 -

Morning all
Hope you all had a good weekend. We had a fairly quiet one. Saw my Mum on Saturday then yesterday DH did some DIY and I recovered after a couple of glasses of wine too many on Saturday night
Sorry to see that Ruth didn't make the top 5. Should be an excellent confidence booster for her to see what support she had though
Been a woman on a mission this morning doing jobs I've been putting off. Already oven cleaned and fridge sorted and cleaned. Just having a quick cuppa then it'll be on to taking up some curtains.sparklyfee wrote: »Morning elite,
Hope everyone is well. I'm starting 3 months of trying to live on just OHs wages so will be around here lots. I'm back to work after 15 months maternity mid-may and seriously wondering if I'll be able to manage it. I work very long shifts and unsociable hours and it is looking like work are being difficult regarding family friendly hours. My OH works away and I have no family near. Just dreading the day when my kids see neither their mum nor their dad in a day. Not acceptable in my eyes, they are still only babies and are so used to having me around.
The way I shop now will be a massive help so thanks to the elite for that. I'm not clued up on tax credits or benefits of any sort as we've never had anything like that. I'm assuming we still wouldn't be eligible if I gave up my job and apparently I'll struggle to get part time work there too. I've been there 12 years and giving it up would mean giving up a good pension, good wage and other benefits. But I just can't leave my children for days at a time, it seems like an impossible situation. Panicking a bit (lot). Any advice from others who have been in my situation welcome.
Thanks and have a lovely (mse) day
I've been there sparklyfee. It's notoriously difficult to get a flexible working contract of any use at my work. Even if you manage to get one approved it is reviewed after 6 months and they have been known to change their minds.
My work is shift work too. 12 hour nights and days and can be any day of the week. I worked 3 shifts a week after DS1 as that was the only way I would be allowed 2 specific days off. My flexi contract said I had Tuesday and Wednesday off each week. As DH was off at the weekends it meant we only needed nursery Mon, Thurs and Fri. When I applied I just said I would have better concentration and efficiency at work if I did not have to worry about the children.
After DS2 was born my sickness gave me an extended period off and I was lucky enough that my sister who is a nursery nurse (and hated her job) could afford to live on £600 a month. So she gave up her work and we pay her officially using a nanny company. Now DS1 is at school it costs a bit more than nursery/after school club but means we don't have to worry about holidays etc and it is very convenient.
In terms of going part time, I've just applied for this and explained that I need a better work/life balance and I feel exhausted. I had a meeting where I said I'm worried I will get ill or make mistakes at work if I continue full time. They have approved it but waiting until next off duty to implement so May time.♥ Worrying does not empty tomorrow of it's troubles.... it empties today of it's strength ♥0 -

I'm up early most mornings, but I don't have time to enjoy the sun - I'm too busy getting ready for work and chasing my DS to get ready for school.
I only get a chance to log on here once I am at work and having my first cup of coffee before starting to do what I am being paid to doSmiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...
